What to start with?

Hey, I had a look through on the search, and nothing really came up so here goes.

I've just got the Grey Knights codex and I want to start out with GK.

Ideally I'm looking for a list around 750 points to start with. I want to keep it centered around GK, so not a huge amount of Inquisition.

For a start I've thought of:

1 Captain (Basic, not too many upgrades)

10 man Terminator (Again basic)

5 man Strike Squad and a Razorback.

I've already got a Marine army and I'm probably going to transfer the vehicles over and whatnot.

So what are your thoughts on this Brothers?

Many Thanks

It'd actually be more of a 5 man Terminator squad :P One unit of just about anything in the Codex is 200 to 300 points.

5 Termies w/ hammer, 4 halberds, psycannon, psybolts (245)

5 Strike Squad w/ hammer,psycannon, psybolts (140)

Razorback w/ heavy bolters, psybolt ammunition (50)

Dreadnought w/ 2 TL autocannons, psybolts (135)

Leaving 180 points to get an HQ (Grand Master, Brother Captain, Librarian, etc). Note: For the more normal HQ slots you're looking at at least 150-200 points, as our HQs tend to be spendy unless you go with a Brotherhood Champion (which would work nicely with the Strike Squad mind you) or an Inquisitor. Personally I'd go with this list and have the Dread support with the TL autocannons to help for long range firepower.

From my personal experience, I'd say go with the route nurglez and Inquisitor NicolePyykkonen have mentioned. The more elite force will be tougher to extract kill points from, and... if nothing else... it's easier to paint fewer models and get them on the field!

well, my 750 point force would be Draigo, 5 pallies with 2 psycannons and 2 solodins (700 points), but I'm crazy about paladins so you shouldn't listen to me ;) (yes I would quite happily bring draigo and 7 paladins to a 750 point fight).

A balanced approach is useful when starting out a new force, but it also depends on your playing style (as mentioned above by something wycked) and what you are expecting from it (I love, absolutely love elite forces, a 1500 point force with less models then some squads in other armies is just pure joy to me, I also wanted a small force for cheap that I could get painted up without too much effort).

Sorry for the delay, I was away.

Something Wycked, I'm not really trying for anything specialist, mostly a all round good army to take on all. I probably won't use it in tournaments.

After 750 points, I would probably start adding named characters after getting a feel for the army.

The Dreadnought idea seems good and I hadn't even contemplated the Brother Champion. I'll probably go with that list now.

Thank you very much.
