relationships with Chapter

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

Doing a bit of background research, I know we have a reputation for running away from a fight every so often, for legitimate reasons of course!

However, I also run an Ultra's successor Chapter and I was looking at writing some fluff for them and my DA Company where they fight together in the same war zone, and I was wondering how likely it was that close bonds could/would develop between the two Companies. Would the DA stay away and only talk when it was time to plan the attacks? Or would individual squads grow closer bonds?

In addition to this, would it be 'wrong' to paint some parts, like knee pads, with the other chapters symbols or would, for example, the DA be against this? I know my successor Chapter (The Paladrean Knights) would be ok with it, if they had closer bonds.

Id like to hear your thoughts on this.

DA are an aloof Chapter. They form bonds with no one except other Unforgiven. They fight together with other Chapters but probably they'll coordinate just the bare minimum and will stick to their own plan if possible.

Just my 2 cents.

Though the DA are certainly aloof, they aren't hostile to other marine chapters. As long as there aren't any Fallen around to 'distract' them they'll behave. Most of the situations that make the DA look distant and hostile to other chapters (their actions during the 13th, etc.) are mostly caused by the Fallen's presence adjusting the DA's priorities.

If they had a 'normal' campaign for long enough, I imagine they would start to form positive bonds after a few marines are saved by a member of the other chapter a time or two. They may even share iconography for the remainder of the campaign or the campaign badge may reflect both chapter's iconography.

Even amongst other chaptes of legend, the DA remain apart in the fluff. Time and time again, the only contact that is made, is a demand. They never ask twice.

If circumstances create an un-avoidable situation where contact is required, they will follow through, and then deal with the consequences, which would have been weighed before hand. This is a parent chapter, who is known for leaving battleplans mid fight, for what seems no reason. It would be unthinkable for a descendant of Guillman to stomach, fortunately, they leave few loose ends, and those that are left, they have strong ties to portions of the Inquisition.

They do not plan attacks with the human armies of Mankind, and they cetainly don't attend council, fighting where and when they will during campaigns.

Their peer astartes however, like your UM Successor, I'm sure that if circumstances would provide benefit to the Dark Angels, they will fight alongside them. I doubt they would plan anything with the UM's, or speak on a squad level. The relationship would be stiff and result based. It would also depend on what the Company Master is being ordered to achieve, and how the alliance would further that goal.

Even for the Space Wolves, every time they meet, blood is shed through a duel, that has not lost its hatred and meaning in over 10,000. I could see a healthy respect for one another, especially if the blood duel is fought well and to a standstill.

I suggest reading kadilus for an idea od how da work with others. They work with guard so long as they understand that the da are in charge. As far as other chapters, if need be they would work with them. They still fight for the imperium and only rarely walk out on a fight and never for no reason.
