RebG
Here's one for you airbrush owners out there. I'm on the verge (in the next day or two) of finally buying my long awaited airbrush. I've made my decision, got the compressor but am now wondering; is there anything else I need? A lot of sites sell specific cleaning fluid for airbrushes. Is this recommended or can I just run through white spirit or similar? Do I need the posh little pipe cleaner things? Or a pot/stand for my overspray (which does seem a fairly good idea as I'll be in a relatively small space). The lost goes on, anything you airbrushers out there can't live without? Cheers all! Millicant
There isn't anything else you NEED to have. There are some things I use regularly that I would recommend, however: Windex (or knock-off for cheap). I clean everything with this, save the inner workings of the airbrush. It works wonders with acrylic paint. If you're using enamel - then switch to acrylic and use windex to clean it up. ;) Regular little pipe cleaners. Also for cleanup of the airbrush. It depends on what kind you get but a handful of pipe cleaners at the right size will do wonders in making it last. Regulator/moisture trap. Very handy and will ease your headaches as your get further into airbrushing. Don't know if you have one or not, but this is the one thing I would most highly recommend. That's it. I have the Vallejo pot for cleaning/spraying out my airbrushes but it's just for convenience. If you're near a sink that will work just as well. Welcome to airbrushing! I can get some Windex type stuff, good tip. What do you use to clean up the inner workings? Is anything more specific required? Moisture trap!! I actually almost forgot one of those after reading about it in every post ever! Phew. Pipe cleaners and the rest I thought would be ok with 'normal' ones instead of the expensive little wire ones sold on airbrush sites. Think I'll treat myself to a pot, it does seem to make sense. Thanks for the tips, now I just have to learn to use the bloody thing! Fang of Morkai
Also get nozzle cleaner and brush set. I started not long ago and until you get the mixing of paint right, the nozzle cleaner is your best friend agains clogs.
