Hi guys. Here's some eye candy and brief batrepness for you. Sorry for the quick notes, but I was jotting down stuff and trying to play quickly. ;)

 

Scenario: Capture/Control

Deployment: Spearhead

Forces: Salamanders vs. Nurgle

Turn 1:

-Nurgle wins the roll for first turn and holds 3 Vindicators in reserve. Salamanders fail to seize the initiative.

-Dreadnought shoots the closest land speeder with TLLC, stuns it.

-Bikes turboboost to far left.

-Demon Princes approach the enemy.

-Ironclad and Tactical Squad arrive via drop pod, near the Nurgle home objective. Kill a Plague Marine melta gunner.

-Land Raider kills the dread (explodes!)

-Combined lascannon fire kills a Demon Prince, wounds his pal.

Turn 2:

-"Gravy Boat" arrives from reserve. Misses LRCrusader with Demolisher Cannon.

-Plague Marines kill the Ironclad with Plasma Guns (after a Melta misses completely)

-Interestingly enough, one of my camping Plasma Gun squads shoots some Tactical Marines and leave their melta gunner alive to cause SERIOUS problems later.

-"Gravy Boat" dies a horrible death

-The Flamethrower Plague Marine squad's rhino is destroyed

-Last Prince finally dies from a PotMS multimelta after weathering tons of small arms fire.

- Vulkan charges into a Melta squad and kills errrbody with his terminators, then dies when the Power Fist swings on him after hitting him once.

-The damn Tactical Marine with the melta gun ties 6 plague marines up in my own deployment zone.

Turn 3:

-All Vindicators arrive

-Land Raider gets blown up by the Bikes

-3 Terminators get torched by the new Vindicators

-Another Ironclad arrives via drop pod on Death Guard's objective

-Lascannons fluff completely (demonic possession on all vindicators for any shots that managed to shake/stun!

 

Turn 4:

-Flamer PM squad charges enemy objective camped by a combat squad

-Stun the Ironclad in deployment zone with Plasma, but it has extra armor.. Not good!

-Bikes charge some marines/speeder.. Don't do much

-Salamanders counter charge plague marines in SM deployment zone on top of Objective

-Ironclad charges 6 plague marines (uh oh)

Turn 5:

-Melta guns all over manage to stun and destroy all the land speeders

-Melta Gun misses the Land Raider Crusader

-Vindicator kills another terminator leaving the TH/SS sergeant!

-TH/SS sergeant charges into plague marine squad in SM deployment zone

-Vindicators lose weapons/one destroyed

 

We rolled a 6 to keep going.

 

Turn 6:

-Final land speeder dies

-Ironclad gets out of close combat.

-TH/SS kills my final Plague Marine in the enemy deployment zone and he claims that objective with one tactical marine with a lascannon

-Ironclad kills a Rhino near my objective and contests it

Victory for the Salamanders!

 

I made some serious mistakes, such as not having the bikes go to the enemy deployment zone. I was too worried about losing them and ended up turbo-boosting for 2 turns.

 

MVP for Salamanders: TH/SS terminator ensured that the plague marines on his objective did not survive to claim it. I should have sent more marines to attack it instead of a single squad!

 

MVP for Nurgle: Bikes. The ability to move 24" made a big difference, though I did it too many times. Once should be the limit.

 

I am sure I might have messed up some details, but you get the picture (even if my cell pics suck!)

 

I had pink dice.

Actually yes, thank you for following up.

 

The new list is the same as above but with the following changes, which I think are superior:

-Traded 6 Plague Marines on foot with Melta x2 for 4 Terminators w/ CMelta x2, Reaper, Cfist

-Dropped TLLC on dread to a TLAutocannon

 

I need to play more aggressive. I was too worried about losing units so I hung back and lurked around my own objective. Had I assaulted his with everything, the only unit on my objective would be 1 ironclad (if it kills all my plague marines camping about).

I like reapers in some terminator squads but I feel like you're making too much of an "all purpose" unit with these terminators. Loadout wise, you want them to be hanging back at 36" shooting transports, deepstriking in to fry heavy armor and assaulting units/armor to rip them open. That much flexibility ends up diluting the squad in my eyes.

 

That said, have you considered defilers over vindicators?

i have to say im lovin that store, im gunn a have to move to 'behind you creepin'...

 

good game and pretty good result considering it was a vulkan list (arguably cream of C:SM) vs a list taken from our beloved and equially maligned chaos dex.

how do you find nurgle bikers, i can imagione T6 makes them all but invulnerable to small arms.. id imagine they work well with nurgle winged princes.

I have ruled out defilers since the miniature first appeared because of the legs, and I think I need the Ap2 templates more ;)

 

I've got a Necrosphinx defiler for the Thousand Sons, and it never did well (even when it survived games)

 

I'm not suggesting you should take defilers and my suggestion won't help with the legs but using a Plague Hulk from FW as a defiler would give you a sweet Nurgle themed 'defiler'.

 

Personally I think you lost because Tzeentch hates it when people get into bed with his rival.
