Redfinger
I am seriously considering building my own gaming table. The LHS has a serious lack of decent terrain and tables. I have come up with some plans that will allow me to make a portable, folding, gaming table that can be used as a 4x4 and a 4x6 so that it can be used with Warhammer and Warmachine. The problem I am running into is the theme for the board. I would like to make a series of terrain and have a unified theme for the board that would be applicable in both gaming systems. I was kind of leaning toward a "trench" board, but I see this as having a problem, and that is static trenches....if I build the trenches into the board then that is it, but if I go with a modular board then you run into the problem of it being much easier to eyeball distances. So as I am sitting here brainstorming, anyone wanna care to throw some ideas out? Ah-a-nothepsis
Sure, I'd like to help give you some ideas that I've always wanted to execute after daydreaming about them Tundra, with a mountain in the center (aka Skyrim) or snowy mountains on the left and right, creating a valley. The mountains could be removable in addition to being modeled in a practical way so that model bases may sit comfortably on different areas. Terrain in the open areas would be nearly void of cover but after all, there would be a certain appeal there. You'll just have to make sure the open areas have tons of DETAIL to bring the board to life. The mixing of snow and grass/dirt would make this board stand out. http://www.realmofgaming.com/screenshots/p...ventures/10.jpg ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For this next idea, imagine it from bird's eye view instead of looking down the trail. Large trees wouldn't have to go up too high and don't even need leaves/foliage on them (to facilitate ease of moving miniatures such as Orks), but would tower over any model used on the gaming board. This wouldn't be just any "jungle" gaming table, but a lush and mossy forest after a heavy rainfall. When space marines crash through the thick foliage of aquarium plants (which would easily copy everything in this picture), their armor would be soaked from the water leftover from the downpour. From a modeling aspect, the areas littered with heavy brush would be impassable to everything but infantry and the dirt "road" would provide a nice brown contrast to ALL of the green. Large patches of foliage on the ground level could be on their own seperate pads to switch things up, along with the trees. Since the large trees take up a few inches, it would make sense that you wouldn't have to make too many of them. Seems cool right? To really make your friends freak out, add a clear stream running through one section of the board, under some foliage. http://octowallpapers.info/wp-content/uplo...l_Wallpaper.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/247344-gaming-table-theme/#findComment-2994547 Share on other sites
