Grotsmasha's LPC 2012

Grotsmasha

Recommended Posts

So amongst other things, this year I've vowed to paint the mini I had laying around to use as our revered Primarch, Lion el Jonson. I've gone for a black armour with gold trimmings and red cape/loin cloth, but have drawn a total blank on his hair colour! Should I be painting a golden mane or emo black?

I'll throw up some pics when I get home.

Cheers,

Jono

I just wish it was black...

Great work you've done so far Grotsmasha I really like that Contemptor of yours! You have plenty of cool stuff in the pipeline too! Have you done anything on this excellent Custodes jetbike?

I see you have not updated your WIP thread for some time (is it almost a month?) so I'm really happy to see you are on to it again!

I'm looking forward for the Lion! :o

EDIT: If you were to give a percentage on how close you are to completion what would it be?

@ candehoes: Cheers!! At least there is a reason for my confusion.

@ Captain Semper: Yeh, RL :o interfering....again. Custode on jetbike just needs his halbred shaft, gems and base. Rhino/Razor just needs its metallics, two sgts @ 95% and Jonson about halfway, I guess that puts me at 80-85% total.

W.I.P Lion el Jonson, really just base colours and first wash

Looks good Jono! Not a big fan of non-GW minis for depicting 40k individuals but I like this one because of the posture. Very regal, very in control. How are you gonna highlight black? Oh, and is the base bended? or it has something underneath?

I've updated the list in the LPC - Phase II thread.

@ Brother-Sergeant Bohemond: Can't take credit for this one, it's an eBay purchase, "The Lion King", mrs_velard occasionally has counts as Primarch minis available. They're fairly large too, 50mm, perfect for true-scaling, some are straight out of the HH Art books. So far I've acquired Jonson, Russ(looking to replace, Scibor maybe), Guilliman(replaced with Scibor's), Mortarion, Magnus, Angron, Dorn, Mannus & Horus. I've also got Legendarion's Vulkan and Scibor's Sanguinius. I'm currently *attempting* to build Alpharius, Omegon & Curze

@ Captain Semper: I'm terrible at highlighting, I don't have patience and control necessary, I usually just dry-brush and wash. The mini is being held to the base with folded wire so I can remove it and paint the base separately.

That's turning out great Jono! The face is much more of a focal point than I originally thought. It means that you really need to take good care of it otherwise the entire model will suffer! But so far it looks ace - keep it up!

Straightforward may be but it's also very effective! Also love the sword - very nice job there! Don't worry too much about the bases but simple flocking will get you a long way.

Can we hope for 100% completion this weekeend?

Sad to say, but I'm gunna be cutting it close, I don't have much more available time this weekend an am interstate next weekend and then have my sons 1st birthday the weekend after, March is a little hectic this year for me. I don't have much to go, but it'll take most of the spare time I can find.

Cheers,

Jono

Credit where credits due; The method for the sword is from company veteran's LPC WIP, post #17.

Quick question on the Lion Sword, is there any fluff on what it looks like? ATM I'm thinking either a black sword like the Sword of Secrets, or a Golden blade. But would a golden blade (I'll be doing the case of the PP in gold) be too much gold?

EDIT: New option, Gold blade with company veteran's sword method in red?

Cheers,

Jono

Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, I present to you Lion el Jonson, Primarch of the 1st Legion Astartes,

As far as the LPC is concerned, he's done. Once my vow is completed I intend on redoing the face and hair.

Just the Land Rhino/Razor to go now.

Cheers,

Jono

Awesome work indeed! I really like your gold there - very nice, rich gold to complement the Primarch's greatness!!! :) I agree that you could work a bit on the hair/face after the LPC is done, but for now it looks just fine!

Now do you think you'll have your Land rhino/razor completed by the weekend?
