Grotsmasha
So amongst other things, this year I've vowed to paint the mini I had laying around to use as our revered Primarch, Lion el Jonson. I've gone for a black armour with gold trimmings and red cape/loin cloth, but have drawn a total blank on his hair colour! Should I be painting a golden mane or emo black? I'll throw up some pics when I get home. Cheers, Jono Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/247349-grotsmashas-lpc-2012/ Share on other sites

Candleshoes
Aye, gold. It was black when he originally crashed on Caliban and lived within the northern wilds, but once taking his place in civilization, it changed colour. Grotsmasha
Sweet, thanks Vazzy! I knew I'd read it somewhere, but couldn't find it. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/247349-grotsmashas-lpc-2012/#findComment-2994577 Share on other sites
Captain Semper
I just wish it was black... Great work you've done so far Grotsmasha I really like that Contemptor of yours! You have plenty of cool stuff in the pipeline too! Have you done anything on this excellent Custodes jetbike? I see you have not updated your WIP thread for some time (is it almost a month?) so I'm really happy to see you are on to it again! I'm looking forward for the Lion! :o EDIT: If you were to give a percentage on how close you are to completion what would it be? Grotsmasha
@ candehoes: Cheers!! At least there is a reason for my confusion. @ Captain Semper: Yeh, RL :o interfering....again. Custode on jetbike just needs his halbred shaft, gems and base. Rhino/Razor just needs its metallics, two sgts @ 95% and Jonson about halfway, I guess that puts me at 80-85% total. W.I.P Lion el Jonson, really just base colours and first wash Cheers, Jono Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/247349-grotsmashas-lpc-2012/#findComment-2994614 Share on other sites
Brother-Sergeant Bohemond
thats a nice model, how did you build him? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/247349-grotsmashas-lpc-2012/#findComment-2994616 Share on other sites
Captain Semper
Looks good Jono! Not a big fan of non-GW minis for depicting 40k individuals but I like this one because of the posture. Very regal, very in control. How are you gonna highlight black? Oh, and is the base bended? or it has something underneath? I've updated the list in the LPC - Phase II thread. Grotsmasha
@ Brother-Sergeant Bohemond: Can't take credit for this one, it's an eBay purchase, "The Lion King", mrs_velard occasionally has counts as Primarch minis available. They're fairly large too, 50mm, perfect for true-scaling, some are straight out of the HH Art books. So far I've acquired Jonson, Russ(looking to replace, Scibor maybe), Guilliman(replaced with Scibor's), Mortarion, Magnus, Angron, Dorn, Mannus & Horus. I've also got Legendarion's Vulkan and Scibor's Sanguinius. I'm currently *attempting* to build Alpharius, Omegon & Curze @ Captain Semper: I'm terrible at highlighting, I don't have patience and control necessary, I usually just dry-brush and wash. The mini is being held to the base with folded wire so I can remove it and paint the base separately. Grotsmasha
Lion el Jonson PIP, with and without flash True colour is somehere between the two pics. Still to go is the sword, Plasma pistol, more on the hair and face and a bunch of touchups. C&C as usual, Jono Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/247349-grotsmashas-lpc-2012/#findComment-3000994 Share on other sites
Captain Semper
That's turning out great Jono! The face is much more of a focal point than I originally thought. It means that you really need to take good care of it otherwise the entire model will suffer! But so far it looks ace - keep it up! Grotsmasha
Do models need be based to count as complete for the LPC? he_plays_guitar
Love that jumppack. Did you fuse a Sang Guard pack with a normal one? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/247349-grotsmashas-lpc-2012/#findComment-3005603 Share on other sites
Grotsmasha
Yep, precisely. Was very straightforward. Cheers, Jono Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/247349-grotsmashas-lpc-2012/#findComment-3005653 Share on other sites
Captain Semper
Straightforward may be but it's also very effective! Also love the sword - very nice job there! Don't worry too much about the bases but simple flocking will get you a long way. Can we hope for 100% completion this weekeend? Grotsmasha
Sad to say, but I'm gunna be cutting it close, I don't have much more available time this weekend an am interstate next weekend and then have my sons 1st birthday the weekend after, March is a little hectic this year for me. I don't have much to go, but it'll take most of the spare time I can find. Grotsmasha
Credit where credits due; The method for the sword is from company veteran's LPC WIP, post #17. Quick question on the Lion Sword, is there any fluff on what it looks like? ATM I'm thinking either a black sword like the Sword of Secrets, or a Golden blade. But would a golden blade (I'll be doing the case of the PP in gold) be too much gold? EDIT: New option, Gold blade with company veteran's sword method in red? JaM_TW
Black 'obsidian' perhaps...? Some small lines through it, like marble. Could be some greenish colour, perhaps blue? Depends on the overall look of the model really. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/247349-grotsmashas-lpc-2012/#findComment-3008254 Share on other sites
Cactus
I'd go with black, highlighted with a touch of whatever colour suits the model best as Flint&Steel suggests. Olis
I really like that jump pack, Grotsmasha. Might have to purloin the idea for a later project. <_< Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/247349-grotsmashas-lpc-2012/#findComment-3008399 Share on other sites
Grotsmasha
Thanks for the suggestions guys, I found some time early on Mon and decided to go with the Gold with red. @Olisredan: Purloin away. Grotsmasha
Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, I present to you Lion el Jonson, Primarch of the 1st Legion Astartes, As far as the LPC is concerned, he's done. Once my vow is completed I intend on redoing the face and hair. Just the Land Rhino/Razor to go now. Brother-Sergeant Bohemond
awesome work! One question, how did you make the model? Did you buy or is it a full conversion? If so, what pieces did you use? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/247349-grotsmashas-lpc-2012/#findComment-3009518 Share on other sites
Cactus
Very nice. Gold was the right choice for his sword. Is there any chance of a shot of him alongside a normal marine to get an idea of the scale? After you've completed your LPC vow, of course. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/247349-grotsmashas-lpc-2012/#findComment-3009521 Share on other sites
Captain Semper
Awesome work indeed! I really like your gold there - very nice, rich gold to complement the Primarch's greatness!!! :) I agree that you could work a bit on the hair/face after the LPC is done, but for now it looks just fine! Now do you think you'll have your Land rhino/razor completed by the weekend?
