Puhnupetteri
Heya Straight to business so here is some questions i been wondering. Most of them modelling questions or bitz question. 1. Problems with holes (And i dont mean anything dirty): I bought hobbydrill from GW. I wanted to make holes for magnetz and gun barrel holes. Barrel hole is too small for vehicle weapons. In marine boltgun's and stormbolter its okey but for bigger hole is not enough. Any simple method that does not include much bloodshed ? I have 2mm x 1mm magnets that i planned to use for marines and terminators so i could easily swap weapon selections (Terminators from TH/SS changeable tactical terminator arms and for back possible hole for fitting CML launcher) But again hobby drill makes too small holes. When i made my landraider i tried to widen the hole with hobby knife. But it tends to get form like \ / instead of straight lines like = And there is risk to cut something importal off accidently :( (Like i did with my LR... part of wall has now "battle damage" 2. Question And second question. How do you do magnetized space marine with changable weapon selection. I want my command squad to be able act as Combi-plasma shooting platform OR close-combat monsters. Or make different weapon options open for my sternguards (heavyflamer possibility to swap for boltgun) 3. Greenstuff problem I lack skill to greenstuff stuff. I have 8 tactical terminators. 2 more coming from mail soon. I wanted to 5 of them to have changeable arms so i can wield them as TH / ss if needed. I made hammerhands already from fantasy chaos parts (i removed all taint of chaos from arms) BUT i have problem with left arm. I have shields from Chaos warriors (removed all taint of chaos again and i can add ultramarine symbol). BUT i need to make arms. It seems either scratch build from GS. But as i googled cant find any tutorials how to make arms. Or does anyone have other quickie solution for this?.. I have spare lizardmen, empire, dwarf and powerarmored left arms to spare. But they all seem too small. Maybe just grow size of a one of these arms with GS? Anyone know 101 HOW TO GREENSTUFF site out there? 4. Combi-flamer and Combi-melta Any GOOD solution to get ones / make ones. I checked few sites that sell bitz. But they were all out of stock for combi-weapons OR it cost was higher than it should be. I dont have spare flamers, meltaguns that i can easily turn combiweapons. I only have boltguns and GS 5. What weapon options and how many of em comes with basic dreadnought and razorback and sternguard and tactical terminator boxes? Im in desparate need of TL autocannons. I only got AOBR dreadnoughts (2) and 2 razorback with TL plasmagun/lascannons. But i desparately need more transports and ALL weapon options. Kierdale
Well, as for number 4: I needed a combi-Melta and didn't have a spare Melta-gun to cut up, so I lubed up the one I had and took a mould of the barrel-section with green stuff. The next day I carefully cut the mould into two halves and too out the Melta-gun. Then simply lube the inside of the mould (I used Vaseline), shove in some new GS and mould yourself a new Melta-barrel. I adjusted the barrel of a Bolter to make it a little higher and stuck the GS Melta-barrel underneath (personally I prefer my combi-weapon to be underslung). Add some guitar wire as piping and there you go. (My scout sergeant has it if you follow the link in my sig) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/247436-lot-of-questions-i-never-asked/#findComment-2995980 Share on other sites
cathar the great
1. Bigger drill bits. The size of the bit holding the drill can be adjusted for a reason. 2. Drill holes, insert magnets. 3+4. Green Stuff is generally not really good for sculpting hard egdes so scratch building arms and gun options is very hard. If you really like a quick solution, use bits. For a melta, any long barrel like thing with holes drilled into it will do. Maybe you could cut up a banner pole or platic rod and just glue it to a bolter? For the arms, you could simply connect the hands to the shoulders with wire and drape that skeleton with cloth hanging below the shoulder guards. Similar to the upper arms of Sisters. 5. None of the boxes you mentioned comes with autocannons. Imperial Guard weapon teams come with one autocannon and the Imperial Bastion (or whatever it's called) comes with a pair of twin linked ones. I suggest checking Ebay and Bit-ordering sites to buy them individually. If you actually mean assault cannons. Standard Dread has one, Tactical Terminators also have one carried underslung, and Razorback has either one set of twin-linked ass cannons or none, I can't remember. Hope this helps. Cheers, Peter Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/247436-lot-of-questions-i-never-asked/#findComment-2995993 Share on other sites
Haranin
I'm using a 1/8" drill bit right now with my termies. The GW one can take it just fine. RebG
I think Cathar the Great pretty much covered all of it. There's a couple of little bit's I'd add. 1: There will be some weapons and other pieces that'll need a bigger drill bit to make a big enough hole. For those, still use your small drill to drill the first hole (pilot hole) and then the bigger drill bit you can often (on plastic and resin) twist it by hand to get the hole. 2: As has been said, drill holes and insert the magnets on the parts you want to swap. You'll likely need a magnet either side of the torso and another in the shoulder of each arm, the main thing is that each magnet is facing the correct way so they line up correctly for ALL the weapon options you want to use. Test them first before gluing. 3: You're best off joining the mailing lists for some bits sites and waiting for the parts to come in. Sculpting would take a lot of practice to get decent arms (though there's no harm in starting practicing and getting good, it just won't give you a good immediate effect). 4: As Cathar mentioned, green stuff isn't ideal for making weapons and things. There's one combimelta in the Marine Commander box. I think a couple of the Sternguard/Vet models have one too. You can also make a half decent one by buying the Blood Angels inferno pistol arm and combining that with a bolter. Combiflamer is harder to come by. The only one I know of that's 'official' is in a Forgeworld upgrade set. Again, Blood Angel hang flamer might be a handy part. 5: See Cathar's answer for this again. The Aegis defence line in the scenery kit that comes with twin autocannons. This is what a lot of people go to for arming their rifleman dreads. If it was assault cannons, there aren't any with the razorback. There are some good parts available from the Dark Angels Ravenwing sprue though. Also the Stormraven comes with a couple of chunky ones. Browse around bits sites and you'll be able to find some of what you're looking for. Joining their mailing list helps as you'll get email updates when they restock. In the time before they restock you can start practicing your sculpting! It's also worth pointing out that buying all those bit's does get expensive (especially where in demand things like combi weapons are concerned), sometimes it's easier and more cost effective (and much less fiddly work) just to buy the other option unit - as an example my Honour Guard are fully magnetised, can swap to jump packs or change one of their weapon options each. My devastators though, I just bought a couple of extra weapons from Bits and Kits and have the models built to choose before the game. If you magnetise too much you also have a tendency for parts to go missing - 10 marines with both arms magnetised is potentially 40 arms to keep track of. Good luck searching!
