Casperatis
Ok I have been putting off painting this guy for a long time. But here he is, I have not based him yet. I am doing a snow theme with my DA so I just wanted to see what everyone thought. http://i721.photobucket.com/albums/ww220/casperatis/c1104d95.jpg http://i721.photobucket.com/albums/ww220/casperatis/956c4a9d.jpg Ok I know the pictures are not that good.(using my phone) but please I would like to know what everyone thinks. I really would like to know if I could do something better. Next, I will be posting my GM of the DW. Yellow Stripe
Hi Casperatis, first off, this guy looks great. Your detail work on the face for example is truly amazing. You must have a very steady hand. I also really like the effect on the axe, you have done a great job of blending the colours and shading. All I could really suggest, is perhaps an ink wash, not so much the model, but for the back pack. It looks a little plain and a wash could really bring out the depth and compliment the whole piece. That, and perhaps a little detail on the backpack itself. I noticed a skull there that could be done in white, and personally im a fan of silver on blue so perhaps some highlights on the vents could help there also. Thats just my suggestion, like I said though, this guy looks greatest he is, its just if you are anything like me, I appreciate suggestions. Hope this helps you out, and keep up the great work. Chaplain Lucifer
Looking good. I can only point out the fact that you have cloth, paper and chest skull painted in same tones, they could use different tones to diferentiate the textures of those materials. Cheers. Gillyfish
He looks good. A clean style and neatly painted too. :) If you're looking to take him to the next level, you could add some washes to the cloth and parchment to provide greater differentiation, as Luci suggested. You could also darken up the armour (personal preference on my part) with a couple of darker washes too and then highlight back to the present colour. That would add some more depth to the miniature (see the picture of my Ezekial below to see what I mean). http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o126/Gillyfish2010/101_0521.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/247476-new-libby/#findComment-2996639 Share on other sites
Casperatis
Thanks everyone for the C&C. I am going to be high lighting the back pack(didn't use enough *space wolf grey*) I dry brushed the armour in that color to give it an even brighter look. I wanted to make my libbies bright. With Ezekiel I am going to make him really dark. Now about the parchment, should I just give it a quick wash to make it lighter or darker? I was looking at darker since that is how most of my army is done. I like having named characters look a little different than the rest of my army. I am about to post my Belial here in a min. He is really bright!! I think I will be posting my painted part of my army like tomorrow. Thanks again Casperatis Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/247476-new-libby/#findComment-2996909 Share on other sites
Gillyfish
I look forward to seeing the pictures! Yes, I'd darken down the parchment (I've actually started painting it grey and highlighting it to white with dark flesh text to differentiate it from the robes/cloth). Perhaps use gryphonne sepia for either the robes or parchment and ogryn flesh for the other. Xenith
Great work on the axe and face, but the armour looks unfinished. Paint the tubing at the armour joins, as well as the vents on the backpack to break up the sea of blue and youre onto a winner. Casperatis
Thanks again everyone, I have added to this model with some of the suggestions given. I have given the parchment a good was with gryphonne sepia. And the joints, heavy wash of badab black. I went over the backpack with a highlight again. It really does look plain blue. Thinking about removing the skull and putting a purity seal there, since there is nothing going on with his back. What do you think about it? Also the piping around his head I painted it to look like just normal tubing. How does everyone like the model now? old pix http://i721.photobucket.com/albums/ww220/casperatis/1ab114fe.jpg http://i721.photobucket.com/albums/ww220/casperatis/77f0efbe.jpg New pix http://i721.photobucket.com/albums/ww220/casperatis/778132a7.jpg http://i721.photobucket.com/albums/ww220/casperatis/2847c247.jpg Thanks again everyone, Casperatis Edit: added pictures of old and forgot I updated the robe/cloth with a highlight Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/247476-new-libby/#findComment-2997819 Share on other sites
Gillyfish
Looks good Casperatis - the changes you've made add some greater variation in tone and colour which helps. Now, let's see some more models! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/247476-new-libby/#findComment-2998356 Share on other sites
paintingbydvd
Looking good! hopefully when I get around to painting all my faces I can do them justice as you have. The only thing that I would personally do is adding some boltgun to the backpack exhausts to break up the blue, but thats just me. Don't forget to base the model too, I find that as soon as you do that, it changes the model completely ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/247476-new-libby/#findComment-2998367 Share on other sites
Xenith
^^Agree, boltgun metal skull and vent casing on the back would work a treat. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/247476-new-libby/#findComment-2998409 Share on other sites
