This is a little sneak peek for you guys, it's not going up on Tale of Painters for a couple more days but I couldn't wait to share it. Inspired by the whole Warhammer 40,000 is 25 years old I felt the need to paint an old model. I love old models.

Before anyone asks for tutorials, the Axe head tutorial is written and will be on the blog on Friday.

I much prefer the size and poses of the new models, but there's no denying that old models were richer, design-wise. I wouldn't be surprised if that's intentional, to reinforce how far the Imperium has fallen from its glorious times, but the fact is, the old artwork - I'm talking Blanche here - depicted 40K marines and was much more gothic and richer.

Nowadays we get standard-plated marines with a few icons and gold livery. Look at Kor'sarro Khan, he wears a fur cloak and all, yet doesn't convey that 'White Scars' savage feel.

My vote goes to the older model, too, if 'only' for the richness of the armour.
