Astorath the Grim
So I'm finishing up my Flesh Tearers, and I'm trying to decide if I want to go with Rhinos for my RAS or go with the no points cost drop pods. Can a BA drop pod army work? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/247668-drop-pods/ Share on other sites
BloodTzar
You want to drop key elements of your army right at enemy face. Therefore ASM can do better than DP due to D6 DoA scatter, while keeping their mobility (12"move). Stuff that you want to DP is more like, Frag-Furiouso or MM/HF Dread, which will force enemy to split forces to deal with them. But as far your question goes, than yeah DP army can be done with BA codex, however it is loosing the mobility, prehaps is done better by C:SM. Hope it helps, ~BT Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/247668-drop-pods/#findComment-2999177 Share on other sites
Astorath the Grim
That is a good point, especially if the dread's drop pods have locator beacons on them. However, if the RAS' pods are dropped right in the enemy's front yard, mobility is a moot point as you really have no where you need to go. And with drop pod assault in effect, the enemy will have a full round or more of shooting/assaulting the dreads with little to no back up...quite possibly turning them into slag. And the drop pods have the mishap protection from terrain and troops and such. With 7 or 8 drop podding units the drop pod assault isn't near as dangerous for the occupants. Bat33.1
The problem with drop pods is your opponent knows T1 half your pods are coming in and if they don't fancy standing around letting you shoot at them for a turn they will simply reserve everything. The pods are not free because you loose your JP's to get them so you have to give up a chunk of mobility and I'm not sure if that is worth the 'free' pod... I'm not saying pods don't work but against an experienced opponent they will know how to deal with a drop pod army.
