Brother Elochai
I'm wanting to make a to scale Mortarion, and honestly I have no idea where to start. I'm wanting to do post-heresy Mortarion before he was turned into a daemon prince. Instead of making a gargantuan daemon, he'll be a chaos primarch. I don't even know where to start, any ideas? Jaigo
Work with chaos terminator bits for body. Also the chaos terminator lordcloak is nice, and perhaps modify the staff into an scythe. You could also use a chaplain as a base model. I love the chaplian in terminator armour. ghosty
I've seen a really nice rendition of Mortarion made from a Sauron model from the LoTR line. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/247793-making-mortarion/#findComment-3001071 Share on other sites
he_plays_guitar
The best Mortarion I've ever seen was made by using one of the C'tan models from the Necrons, wings from the Sanguinor or Astaroth Blood Angels models, and a hooded Dark Angels head. I think it had some fancy chaos pauldrons on it. It looked absolutely incredible. Azekai
He basically looks like the grim reaper with smatterings of old power armor . . . as was mentioned earlier, the nightbringer provides a suitable base if you don't mind working the metal. Brother Elochai
Hmm, I'll take a look into some of those models. Are there not any primarch models? or any model larger than a termie? nurglephill
The Best three mortarions I have seen have all been made from Inquisitor models. the 52/54mm scale models. Brother Elochai
I'm taking all of this into consideration The Best three mortarions I have seen have all been made from Inquisitor models. the 52/54mm scale models. but I think this might be what I was looking for. TheDVoid
I have a project going on at the moment to make each of the primarchs from inquisitor models. Mortarion is next on my list once I have finished doing Fulgrim battling Ferrus Manus. Speaking of which is there a fight between Mortarion and any other primarch in the heresy? I want to try keep it so each is a battle, for example I'm working on Ferrus/Fulgrim now, finished modeling and half finished painting Alpharius/Papa Smurf but with so much blue and gold papa smurf forced me to take a break from that one. Brother Elochai
I'm not 100% up on my Dusk Raiders/Death Guard canon, but I'm pretty sure that Mortarion rounded up the legion, and they shipped off for Terra, spent most of the Heresy trapped in a warp storm, they emerged as Death Guard, found that Horus had been defeated so they turned around to go do chaos things else where. Maybe someone who has read flight of eisenstein would know more, or if there is some info packed into one of the white dwarf issue, or a codex.... anyway I've been looking at the inquisitor models, as well as tons of peoples finished primarchs. I figured I would have to do a lot of converting, but I don't really see any way to get any of those models into looking like mortarion. Right now I'm thinking doing the whole thing out of modelling materials. I'm working on getting a good front and side view of Mortarion in an image editor so I can 3D image him to scale so I can figure out just what I'm getting into....Time for a crash course in G.S.... I am quite curious as to what you have in mind for your project. Brother Elochai
at one point I was thinking of making my primarch "to scale" but that would make Mortarion 30-33mm high which is not a lot of room to work with for detail, however I feel silly wanting to field a 55 mm primarch next to 25 mm marines ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/247793-making-mortarion/#findComment-3004091 Share on other sites
Jay Taint
I wouldn't worry too much about that. After all, any Daemon Prince would scale to a similar size. And then Mortarion's a primarch. He could easily be 55 mm next to his 25 mm followers, couldn't he?! Cheers, JT Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/247793-making-mortarion/#findComment-3008718 Share on other sites
