John Blanche Primarchs

Hey guys,

I'm just curious if anyone knows if John Blanche ever did Lion El'Johnson portrait? While his art tends to be love/hate, his work has always been a big fan of mind and I absolutely love his version of Sanguinius. I couldn't find most of the primarch in my collected visions book and was curious if maybe they showed up (Lion specifically) in another book or if he simply never did them.

Hey there.

Check out the Collected Visions. Every Primarch is in there. If not in teh main book then right at the back there are images from teh sabertooth card game and he'll be in there Alpharius is in there and doesn't really look like he is currently described so I wouldn't say they were all cannon images. Russ and Magnus are the closest to the current form I think.

The Lion isn't in the card lists in the back, nor is Corax.

If they are please provide a page number and grid reference for us, as I've scanned those pages carefully looking for all the Primarchs and in all that looking I've found neither the Lion nor Corax.

Actually, I think there is a depiction of the Lion in the card, but not as a character. It's an influence (or something like that) card called Redemption. Here it is.

The helm, livery - as well as the need to have a symbolic character influencing a legionnaire - hints at this being the Lion, but there's another clue.

There's a "symmetrical" card called Betrayal which features that same marine with this fellow looming over:

This can't just be some run-off-the-mill fallen captain, so that makes Luther a likely candidate to be this chap. Which, in turn, suggests the other is the Lion, the good half of the Dark Angels.

Considering it's all about the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy, I can't see how it could be anyone other than the Lion, what with the winged helm, wing icons on the pauldron, and the fact that he towers over that Marine. If it's him, it's a great depiction of him.

But it's dark blue with a sea green trim.
