More Minotaur madness

Recommended Posts

Why madness? well probably because its been 15 years or so since i looked models never mind paint them, but since i have some time on my hands now i decided to start painting and have a little bit of fun with my boy whos now getting old eough to play with them when they are done!

After looking at the usual vanilla chapters and finding little other than the Dark Angels or Salamanders to tempt me, i happened upon IA 10 at a car boot sale for a tenner and picked it up. Minotaurs or Exorcists were my choices with my boy having the final say on the Minotaurs.

Just a single mino so far to get a rough idea of how i want them to look, but i figured i'd stick it up here for comments. Took me about 4 hours all in from build to varnish .. yes I know i should have used matt but didnt look at the pot lol.

Quick bit of advice needed, im painting up a techmarine for my Minotaurs and im wanting some options on the colour of the hydraulic cables etc. I tend to go for more muted colours overall.

Im also gonna be using purity seal on the models instead of GW brush varnish as well.

Yeah most of the shine came from the varnish i'm gonna need to pick up a varnish that is a lot flatter than the citadel one.

Which Citadel varnish did you use ? Mat or Gloss ?

Painting cables ? Here is my suggestion : Boltgun metal, drybrush of mithril silver then a wash of Badab Black (or Devlan mud).

A bit more work done on the Techmarine pretty much happy with the red and bronze although the pics dont really show off the colours correctly. Need to shade and highlight the dark metal areas and decide on a final colour for the cable covers then I should be able to get the Axe and servo arm finished ;p

Comments and suggestions always welcome

I picked this model up from ebay a few years ago and after stripping a shed load of paint off it it seemed fine, however now that i've started to paint it up i've noticed that the center chest grill is worn down its not blocked with paint it looks liked its been rubbed across a desk or something so its gonna have to be filed off and replacd with some GS or maybe a mech etched brass symbol from the Iron Hands brass sheet.

Looks good!

I actually liked the "shiny" marine in the first post :D He's so shiny that las weapons would just be deflected.

The tech marine is coming along well, nice balance between red and gold.

For the bronze armour i use a base coat of tin bitz then several watered down coats of GW Dwarf Bronze and a very thin wash of hawk turquoise. Then i gradually highlight with dwarf bronze and shining gold, wash it with a thinned coat of Devlan mud to finish. Sound like a long process but in reality its not and if you doing the minis on masse its even better. As for the techmarine im pretty happy with it, like i say its only the second or third model i've painted in 15 years so i should quicken up after a bit of practise. I still say he looks like Picard though :P
