Achilles Land Raider "Siege Ender" Built

Siege Ender, the first Achilles Land Raider that the Iron Fists received upon it’s founding, a peculiar gift given it’s rarity and the fact that the Iron Fists were a M37 chapter created during the 22nd Founding. The machines themselves are rarely used due to their precious lineage and they're only brought out in the most dire of situations, when it's near immortal ability to stave off the strongest attacks and fearsome offensive weaponry is needed to end the most stalwart of enemies.

Siege Ender came into it's name in a conflict against a heavily fortified Ork stronghold upon a plateau in which there was only one entrance and exit, all other attempts to assail the Orkish settlement was met with fierce resistance, orbital bombardment wasn’t an option since it represented a strategic point that could be converted into a forward operating base for their Imperial Guard allies, the 68th Vesuvio Rats Armored Company.

Veteran Sergeant Ignatio handpicked five of his most trusted Sternguard, men who had earned the name "The Immortals" for their gallantry and true grit, they were thusly armed in their chosen weapons of death before embarking within Siege Ender.

Siege Ender ascended the haphazard road up the plateau, receiving heavy weapons fire upon its hull while it barked back in reply with it's rapid firing Thunderfire Cannon, tearing to shreds all those who opposed it's might. The Melta weaponry made short work of its reinforced gate as it barreled through, dispensing death and destruction. Ignatio and his chosen fought by its side, protecting the machine from all those that would seek its destruction and in turn Siege Ender would protect them, working in perfect harmony until the Orks were dispatched, weary and wounded, the Immortals would mount their chariot, their names intact due to the concise efforts of Siege Ender.

Achilles Land Raider "Last Hope" Built

The Last Hope, one of two Achilles Land Raiders salvaged and sanctified by Master of the Forge Devein Praetor fifty years prior through his efforts with the Technomagi of the Adeptus Mechanicus of Mars, he was able to bring forth the slumbering Machine Spirit of this hallowed weapon of war. The Last Hope escaped relatively unscathed as its Thunderhawk transport and all those aboard perished as it was targeted in midflight by a stealthed Nightlords team equipped with stolen Imperial Guard heavy weapons, most notable of which being the Lascannon which sliced through a turbine, causing it to explode and sheer off a large portion of its wing.

Emerging from the wreckage, the Last Hope initiated defensive protocol, its Machine Spirit surveying the land in a large protective circle as it defended the crashed Thunderhawk and it’s deceased. Throughout the night, Nightlords and their thrice damned allies tried to penetrate its perimeter to salvage and defile the remains of those they’ve slain, each and every time the Last Hope would answer with it’s weaponry.

Upon the morning of its discovery by a team of Iron Fist scouts, they would find vaporized smears of at least ten Nightlords and dozens of their minions. The armored forms of the Nightlords themselves seemed to have been salvaged themselves and as for the Last Hope, it’s weaponry had run empty and it has simply resorted to running over any of those who came near, large dents and gouges in it’s armor told of failed Melta bomb attempts and yet the machine stood wave after wave, a herald and testament to it’s sacred lineage.

Godhammer Land Raider "Ironhorse" Built

Ironhorse, a Godhammer pattern Land Raider salvaged through the years of the Iron Fists encounters with infested Space Hulks, a conglomeration of ships and space forges that are often home to Tyranids, Orks and other anti-imperial sympathizers. It has yet to be battle tested as it’s still missing a few key components, those of which are being requisitioned.

Vindicator "Traitors Bane" WIP

Traitors Bane, one of the newer patterns of Rhino chassis modified to become a Vindicator, mounting a siege shield and bunker busting cannon. Traitors Bane stood alone, its weapon running red to the point of shattering and yet for twenty six hours it held the line on Vetro IV, providing covering fire for tactically retreating guardsman, crushing those dedicated to Khorne.

Vindicator "Iron Vanguard" WIP

Iron Vanguard, one of the newer patterns of Rhino chassis modified to become a Vindicator, mounting a siege shield and bunker busting cannon. Often fielded alongside another Vindicator, when working in tandem, they're able to break any defense and more importantly shatter the morale of those who face against the Iron Fists.

Vindicator "Iron Sky" WIP

Iron Sky, one of the newer patterns of Rhino chassis modified to become a Vindicator, mounting a siege shield and bunker busting cannon. Often fielded alongside another Vindicator, when working in tandem, they're able to break any defense and more importantly shatter the morale of those who face against the Iron Fists.

Deimos Rhino "Glorious Iron" Built

Glorious Iron, a Deimos pattern Rhino given to the chapter upon it's founding, its been salvaged and rebuilt numerous times, it’s hull a sacred relic from the times when the Emperor himself walked free. Some within the chapter say that Glorious Iron tread upon the very ground of Terra itself.

Deimos Rhino "Iron Avenger" Built

Iron Avenger, a Deimos pattern Rhino given to the chapter upon it's founding, one of the very few that have passed the centuries unscathed, unlike its brother this was built upon Mars, oddly enough it's Machine Spirit is far more reactive, taking on the stance of a battle tank when left to its own machinations as seen in a few instances were its crew is stunned and unable to fire due to death or injury, its bolters raining death upon those foolish enough to come within range.

MKV Iron Fist Pattern Razorback "Iron Star" Built

Iron Scream, one of the newer patterns of Rhino chassis given to the chapter after it was requisitioned from a Forge World, it mounts a Twin Linked Heavy Bolter, laying down a withering hail of fire to better help it's occupants achieve whatever goals they deem necessary.

MKV Iron Fist Pattern Razorback "Iron Driver" Built

Iron Driver, one of the newer patterns of Rhino chassis given to the chapter after it was requisitioned from a Forge World, it mounts a Twin Linked Heavy Bolter, laying down a withering hail of fire to better help it’s occupants achieve whatever goals they deem necessary, though unlike it's predecessor, Iron Driver has come face to face with Tyranids, even with it's main weapon taken out of commission earlier in the conflict, but it was able to smash aside and run over a rampaging Carnifex, crushing it beneath it's treads to win the day.

MKV Iron Fist Pattern Razorback "Iron Chariot" Built

Iron Chariot, one of the newer patterns of Rhino chassis given to the chapter after it was requisitioned from a Forge World for services rendered in it's defense, it mounts a Twin Linked Heavy Bolter, laying down a withering hail of fire to better help its occupants achieve whatever goals they deem necessary.

MKV Iron Fist Pattern Razorback "Iron Dawn" Built

Iron Dawn, one of the newer patterns of Rhino chassis given to the chapter after it was requisitioned from a Forge World for services rendered in it's defense, it mounts a Twin Linked Heavy Bolter, laying down a withering hail of fire to better help its occupants achieve whatever goals they deem necessary.

In a round about way, I've finally decided to make a 22nd founding chapter, The Iron Fists. I've had the models laying around in various states of build, often salvaged from Ebay last minute purchases ( the things you can snag for $20 ) or given to me from friends who're getting out of the hobby or more realistically have so much stuff that they've offloaded them onto me. I've bought a few Forgeworld pieces as everyone in my group likes to use them in games.

I've set this up as a way to encourage me to finish this off as soon as possible as I'm also running a 40k campaign with a few friends, one is playing Dark Eldar, another is playing Space Wolves and the last is on and off with her Tyranids. I'm trying to dig up a few more players, but it'll be easy to implement others as the story unfolds.

Right now I'm aiming to get 1750 points set up as we'll be starting up soon. . . and I'm tired of using proxies. In so far, the stories for my vehicles are rather accurate. I still can't get over the fact that I ran over a Carnifex with a Razorback.

I'm working on the Twin linked Multi-Meltas at the moment, have to fill in a few bubbles and then fill in a few gaps on the Achilles itself. Then I'll start putting on iconography, since the weathers being compliant, I'll be able to put a coat of paint soon.

Standard Dreadnought ( one I got for free ) , has the usual options of Missile Launcher, Assault Cannon, Twin linked Lascannon and Fist. Going to put Iconography on this one as well.

Cheers for the first reply Sons of the Forge!

I really dig that Contemptor model that came out, kind of why I picked up a couple ( Hope yours was easy to put together, mine's been a damn hassle ), trying to get a dozen or more mini's situated today so I can start base coating.

All this free time today is starting to pay off. . .

Started work on a Sternguard Squad. I have another two to build/photograph, but they're currently being held together by an ingenious device that involves paperclips and rubberbands.

Sternguard “God Killers” , I have to go about and figure out each of their names. I've documented most of their kills since my campaign group is big into that.

If I keep this up, my 1750 Iron Fists will be squared away in no time. . .

Master of the Forge Devein Praetor ( Artificer Armor, Servo Harness, Conversion Beamer and Servitors )

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/NRJS7953/DSC01339.jpg

Right now I'm trying to figure out a way to combine pinning and magnets, though the more I fiddle around with it, the easier it'll probably be to do an angled pinning and remove the Servo Harness for the Conversion Beamer when higher points/whatever allows for it.

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/NRJS7953/DSC01340.jpg

I hate this thing so much, but at least it's sticking together now. Going to work on the Conversion Beamer next.

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/NRJS7953/DSC01338.jpg

Really can't do much with these guys, but I do have a spare Heavy Bolter laying around, so I'll probably make a HB Servitor soon.

Hi.

I note you say you're doing a DIY chapter. The Iron Fists are listed in Codex: Space Marine and a colour scheme is provided. Will you be following that colour scheme or creating your own?

Ultimately they're your models so paint them how you like, but the pedants in the hobby may give you grief.

(I'm now wondering if I count as a pendant.... I think I probably do)

Damn, I only have access to last editions and this editions SM Codex. Didn't see any entries for them, should have checked the 40k Wiki/Lexi.

Oddly enough their color scheme is close to what I was going to do as I gold highlights/icons over an iron colored base.

Clearly I'm going to follow a new path since it basically follows what I wanted to do anyway.

Score.

You're far from a griefer Death Spectre, you quite possibly saved me a ton of time thinking about background fluff. Plus I can twist and turn certain things, so it's all good.

Appreciate it.

As for an update, I've got two MK3 Iron Armor sets drying right now. Going to turn those two into Sternguard Squads "Siege Breakers" and "The Immortals".

Pictures to follow soon-ish.

"The Immortals"

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/NRJS7953/DSC01345.jpg

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/NRJS7953/DSC01346.jpg

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/NRJS7953/DSC01347.jpg

Going to leave the backpacks and weapons off as it'll be easier to paint them.

The plan is to build the base of each squad, then go back doing minor conversions and the like, since I'm really not into ornamentation. Which oddly enough now matches the newly acquired Iron Fists background.

Thank you Andrew J, it was one of those late night "I can't go to sleep" creations. I promptly passed out after wards.

The main body is from the LE 25th Anniversary Crimson Fists set

Helm is from a MKV Heresy Set

Left Arm is a bolt pistol arm taken from the Space Wolves set

Left Shoulderpad is from the Crimson Fists Assault Pack

Jump Pack is from a MKV Heresy Set

Going to start work on the next four from the Titan Slayers once I'm done with another work project since I'm working out of the office today.

Thank ya Olisredan!

I think I'm either going to use the Helmet in one of the four other members of the Titan Slayers. Since the rest of the Iron Fists use a mishmash of armors, aside from the Sternguard Squads as MK Iron Armor suits their "In the thick of the heaviest firefights" roles best.

Going to leave them at five strong for now, will definitely be cycling back to them to create a 10 man strong unit.

Started work on this, it's not much but it's something.

Very nice posing on the Assault marines, especially the LE Sgt. Also liking the Tac Sgt, couldn't figure out for a minute what model it was, am I right in thinking it's the one out of the Sternguard box? Looks very different with the sword, good job!

Thank you, Strike Captain Lysimachus! I'm quite happy with how they turned out.

The metal MKIII Iron Armor is Chronus on foot, I just wanted the version of him pointing out targets out of the cupola. Since I got that one squared away for the Achilles ( removable mount, so I can toss him on different vehicles ), I figured I'd make something for another squad since I'd like to use MKIII armor for the Iron Fists as a way to denote those with exceptional battle honors.

The tactical sergeant looks like Chronus on foot. Amazing what a head and weapon swap can do.

Good start this, but paint is demand...er...requested.... :HQ:

Thank you Valkyrion, you got it! Indeed is Chronus on foot, it was just a simple head swap from the Crimson Fists Tactical upgrade, a MKV arm/hand/chainsword and a MKIII shoulder pad.

I'm working on a few test models, but they're not coming out as nicely as I wanted. Figuring out a way create a tangible color scheme is a PITA.

Ah, so it was Chronus who got the helmet. Fits him well, I have to say. Still loving the kitbashery, brother. ^_^

Thank you Olisredan! Aye, was swapping heads all over the place and I finally found the right one. Appreciate it!

As others have said, nice kitbashing :P

Ludovic

Thank you Battle-Brother Ludovic, I'm having fun tossing things together.

I love the posing on all those chaps, but im more interested in your Jon Woo antics....

Thank you Kaiser, it's coming together nicely after I fiddle with pieces for a good ten or so minutes.

I got deployed to Iraq/Afghanistan a few times due to my MOS ( 96B - Intelligence Analyst ), I'm basically the fool with an M9 and M4 with what amounts to a Panasonic Toughbook secured in some half assed MOLLE attachment rig to either my chest or pack. Anyway, long story ( watered down ) short. M4 had a few failures to feed while out on patrol, changed out magazines multiple times ( while swearing non stop of course ) and finally got fed up trying to figure out how to make the POS function properly ( Yeah, I know. . . should have burnt incense to appease the Machine Spirit ). Asked for an M9 and added that to the fray, then we had a moment of clarity, the Stryker amounts to a level three LAV, we got back into the vehicle and rode home.

Thank ye once again to all those that replied, working on my Iron Fists between work breaks.

I plan to have some painted mini's soon, as said before, just trying to figure out the proper paint scheme.

  • 10 months later...

Ugh. . .

Arise from the dead.

So, one deployment, two moves and a bucketful of messed up later ( Got married ), I've been able to revisit my Iron Fists.

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/NRJS7953/20130119_134753_zps04d44297.jpg

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/NRJS7953/20130119_140130_zpsa9204629.jpg

Apologies for the photos, was only able to use my camera phone as the wifey has shanghai'd my DSLR.

Was digging around in plastic totes and found the sum total of three extra Vindicators, one Land Raider, six Drop Pods, two dreadnought drop pods and five standard Dreadnoughts with an assortment of weaponry, naturally they were still on sprue and I honestly don't remember buying them. So, looks like Strikeforce Godhand will be getting a huge boost into the realm of Apocalypse.

Recently purchased an Aegis Defense Line, though that's still being based.

I hope to start painting tomorrow, failing that, at least spraying the base coat. The weather has been rather nice these past few days.

Being married is awesome, but holy censored.gif does it cut into my hobby time.
