ChrisSpaceWolves
I decided to play Warhammer 40K again and decided to get back in with Grey Knights. I've been playing Fantasy for about 2 years now and my skills with a paint brush have got much better. I was looking at my Space wolves and decided that I could do better. I picked the army based on the look of their armor and force swords. Being gone for so long out of 40K I'm a bit lost on a build. I decided that I wont ever be playing in a tournament with em... and if I do it'll be a small one local. Nothing big. With that in mind I'm building what looks cool to me and am not worrying about what works. So far I have Draigo, 5 Paladins, 10 Terminators, a Dreadknight, a Stormraven, and 5 Purgators. Tonight I'm buying a Ven Dreadnought and a Razorback. I know I'm runing a Psyfleman Dread but am unsure about the Razorback... I'll be posting pictures in the painting section after I get the airbrush fired up. See ya there, Chris Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/248109-starting-to-play-again/ Share on other sites

Enjoy your stay, and be sure to post progress reports! Should I post WIP of the army here and in the Painting threads? Ive noticed a few people doing that, and didn't want to buck the system. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/248109-starting-to-play-again/#findComment-3005233 Share on other sites

ChrisSpaceWolves
Well as promised I wouldnt post up any pictures until I had paint on em and I have one color on em. I of course primed em black first then hit em with a spray of boltgun metal. Second step is a wash of 25/25/50 Badab black/Azurmen Blue/Water. Then a highlight of either Chainmail or Mithril. I'm not sure which will look better yet so have to do a test model. All the swords are going to be a NMM. I'm really looking forward to testing my skills with my airbrush in order to do it. http://i332.photobucket.com/albums/m339/ChrisMBianchi/100_6988.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/248109-starting-to-play-again/#findComment-3012650 Share on other sites

ChrisSpaceWolves
I stopped into my local GW to do some hobbying and some gaming. I got all my models washed in a mix of dark blue wash and got all the highlights done on everything. I have to pick out details and words on all the armor and I'll be well on my way to finished painting the force. I played a game against Tyranid at 1850 points. We played Pitched battle and Kill points. I had Draigo 5 paladins with Brotherhood banner in a Stormraven with Psybolt ammo 10 terminators with 2 Psycannons and other melee weapon upgrades 5 Purgators with 4 Psycannons a Razorback with a Las Plas build and finally a Dreadknight with Inferno cannon and Heavy Psycannon He had Swarmlord 3 warriors Carnifex 30 Hormagaunts 30 Hormagaunts 12 Genestealers with a Broodlord A Venomthroap a Trygon and 2 Zoanthroaps I rolled a 6 for grand strategy and gave my dreadknight, stormraven, and Terminators the scout rule. I moved forward with the dreadknight and stormraven on scout covering half the board and then during top of one ( I had first turn) I moved forward, fired with the Dreadknight and killed half the first unit of Hormagaunts. My Terminators set down in front of a carnifex. The Stormraven fired at one zoanthroap, the paladins put a wound with shooting on the carnifex. I then assaulted with the Paladins and one shotted the Carnifex with a Halberd. My Purgation squad killed the second zoanthroap. My terminators shot at the swarmlord and killed one of the hive guard. My las plas then shot the second hive guard and scored a wound. Bottom of two He assaulted my Dreadknight with his hormagaunts and only did one wound. He also assaulted my terminator squad with his other hormagaunts and killed 1. I killed a bunch and left 6 after his fearless checks. His warriors shot and did 2 wounds to my paladins and of course I used the wound allocation shenagins to keep em alive. My Dreadknight killed 3 more hormagaunts and he did none killing 3 more from fearless. He assaulted the Paladins with the swarmlord and I killed it and his Hive Guard. His warriors missed with their shooting and he was trying to move them over into position to support the Hormagaunts that were assaulting the Dreadknight. Top 2 I shot the First Zoanthroap with my Stormraven and killed it. I shot at the venomthroap and killed it with the Purgation squad. My Paladins shot and assaulted the Warriors and killed them. My Dreadknight killed 4 hormagaunts and he did no wounds again after saves. This caused a leadership test due to no brain bug in the area. They ran and I didnt catch em. My terminators finished off the second unit of Hormagaunts. Bottom 2 He has nothing left on the table but 2 units in reserves He rolls and doesnt get anything in. Top three I position my army so that I can defend from the outflank from the Genestealers should they come in and more the large assets to the middle where they can redeploy quickly. Bottom three He gets the Trygon and the Genestealers on the board. THe trygon scatters in the direction of the table edge near a crater and the genestealers come on the edge that is close to my Purgation squad. He gets a great roll for move through cover and manages to assault my Purgation squad. I kill three genestealers but he manages to wipe the squad which worked to my benefit. Top 4 I shunt the dreadknight near the genestealers and use the two templates to really decimate the unit. There were 2 left after his attacks. The Terminators shot the remaining genestealer and the Broodlord. My Stormraven heads to the trygon and deploys the paladins. I shot the trygon with the stormraven doing 3 wounds and then shot with the Paladins finishing the job. No more bugs... In the end I lost 2 paladins, 2 Terminators, and my Purgation squad. The paladins were killed in the assault by the swarmloard with his insta kill weapons. The entire game Draigo didnt even get to attack. Things were dead by halberds before he got the chance to attack. I was ashamed to sit there and bring that kind of filth to the store. Its a tournament army for sure. I am going to look into making it less mean for the friendly environment that we play in. That said... Holy crap is this army good! Its about time that one of my impulse "oh I like the way that looks" buys isa decent army. I'm looking forward to getting the army painted so I can play in a few local tournaments. Not a bad day at the shop IMHO. Chris Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/248109-starting-to-play-again/#findComment-3015126 Share on other sites

shortysl
When that soldier in the Godzilla movie exclaimed "We're going to need bigger guns", he was definitely talking about that Heavy Flamer! That is a truly monstrous gun, just screams "don't ;) with me!"
