Sgt.Rob
I'm retooling my list in preparation for the thunderwolves finally being released. Basicly ive got 4 WG attached to units, is the 5th in termi armor with a cyclone taking cover and pot shots worth the points? Has any one tried this with any success? Khine
Attach him to a unit, preferably long fangs. If you don't have a unit that he can sit with then i wouldn't bother taking him because he would be a unit (1) wolf guard which means an easy kill point for your opponent. It would also be a waste of 63 pts. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/248142-lone-cyclone-wolf-guard/#findComment-3005604 Share on other sites
Rune_Priest_Rhapsody
I agree with Kine here. He's a really good model to join a pack that is camping out or providing long range fire support (ie, Long Fangs), but running him solo is just going to get him killed fast. End of Line Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/248142-lone-cyclone-wolf-guard/#findComment-3005648 Share on other sites
Dewi Sant
Agreed, I would stick him into a pack of Long Fangs for a number of reasons. 1/ In a DoW mission you can get off a couple of missiles on the first turn while the rest of the long fangs take up fire positions. 2/ He also benefits from the split fire rule along as the LF pack leader is alive. 3/ Lets you take AP3 saves. 4/ He can pop off 2 24'' Storm Bolter shots at any enemy that get a little to close as well as firing his Cyclone at them. 5/ Should anything push though your lines and make it into combat, then he has a nice big sharp power weapon and is going to be dishing out 3 attacks if they get the counter charge. Eikrem
Due to being in TDA he will have relentless (or something similar i think) that allows him to move and fire everything. Same reason why terminators can move and fire heavy weaponry Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/248142-lone-cyclone-wolf-guard/#findComment-3005861 Share on other sites
Wulfebane
The wolf guard entry (pg30) has a special ruling regarding cyclone MLs and the ability to fire both it and a stormbolter. And even then I still forget to do it when the enemy get close enough. hendrik
stick him with the plasmagun pack that stays sitting in your deploymentzone to keep your objective. in this way they are able to atleast touch a unit before it's within 24" range. on top of this it also allows you to target 3 individual units (if you have a long fang pack anyway; 2 from the long fangs, 1 from the grey hunter pack) instead of just 2 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/248142-lone-cyclone-wolf-guard/#findComment-3005962 Share on other sites

Akela
Actually, I've been impressed by their use w/ Grey Hunter packs in Drop Pods rather than Long Fangs. If he's in with a group that won't be moving, you kinda lose the utility of Relentless, especially with the ability to shoot two missiles and a stormbolter AFTER moving. Drop the pod in and the GH and Cyclone Termie will control a whole area of the board and add another missile launcher that can shoot at a separate target from the Long Fangs. Best way to supplement that is have a Rune Priest Drop Pod in another pack, either right near someone to use JOTWW or remotely to spam Living Lightning and force the enemy to engage multiple long range targets that are more than adequate in close combat. Dewi Sant
A nice idea, might give that a whirl. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/248142-lone-cyclone-wolf-guard/#findComment-3007083 Share on other sites
