Grovsnus
As the label i'm thinking about buying some scouts with sniper rifles. Only thing is that after looking around the forum a bit, peapol generly use the with bolt weapons and meltas. As i'm a player that often realy on long range support, so i like the sniper rifles. So hers the questions, are they worth it and shall i consider a full squad or less? Regards G. Freman Bloodglaive
Generally it's not worth it. We use our Scouts to distract and destroy back field armour. Without the camo cloaks that Codex Scouts get we can't really make ours secure in cover, and we have to pay to take the rifles while CS get them for free. In Codex form sniper rifles are the best use for Scouts. For us they're sub-optimal. hendrik
they have however a higher BS, making those sniper rifles hit more often. they definetly aren't bad, but suffer from competing for an elite slot against other very viable units. the possible pinning on your opponents units can also change the game quite a lot when it happens, stopping his surge forward and allow you to focus on his forces. i guess it also depends on what armies you find yourself facing yourself. I for one know never to take my OBEL scouts when i'm facing my neighbour his bloodangels. by the time they arrive his army is usually already in my deployment zone/in the midfield with their jumppacks. my sneaky lads simply won't catch up with them and usually find them outnumbered when trying to conquer that his DZ objective. Bjorn Ravenfeeder
I've got a 6 man sniper sqaud that I use on occasion and tend to have mixed results, they have never let me down but they have also never acted above and beyond as such. I tend to run with 5 sniper rifles w/ backup bolters and a missile launcher. They tend to infiltrate into a patch of cover on a flank or easily defended position upfront, very rare, but on occassion i'll OBEL them in to rapid fire bolter a sniping position at the rear of the enemy (not great as you miss too much shooting). My kill ratio with them is'nt great but I find they do make their points back albeit in a round about way with the enemy either 1) giving them a wide berth, thus channeling their units into my other forces more equiped for close quarters. 2) Ignoring them, giving me enough kills over the game to justify them. 3) sending a unit in to deal with them, in this case they fire their sniper rifles as long as they can, then redeploy whilst rapid firing bolters, leading a merry dance. I think they could pack more of a punch with a few more sniper models in there, but then they might seem too big a threat and come under more fire. At the moment they seem small enough for the enemy to ignore in favour of throwing their fire power into the bigger sqauds of power armour. So, are they worth taking? yes if you have a slot free. Will they be amazing? sadley not. they will be unsung heroes of the battleefield who get overlooked by their bloodstained brothers Will they swing a battle? very unlikely, though they will make it easier for others to.
