TWC loadouts

My local meta-game is becoming very damgerous for power armour, so much strength 8 AP2 stuff flying around so I intend to go with stormshields on every TWC, it's expensive but will help avoid the massed death. A hardwired T5 is also great as it avoids the instant death issues I have with other armies (paladins for instance).

as for wulfen, i do feel it's not worth it on TWC.

TWC hate just about any massed fire.

In a game yesterday, my 4man TWC failed a charge and got left out in the open against two squads of Tau Fire Warriors with a handful of markerlights, and a full squad of Eldar Dire Avengers which proceeded to unload on me. The Avengers even pulled some trick to fire 3 shots apiece. However, in the end, due to some beneficial rolls for me, I ended up only taking 1 wound.

Toughness 5... never leave home without it.

Yesterday my lord and three buddies smashed the life out of Vect's Deus, a Venom, and two Ravagers. In that time they took two wounds total from all of the poison fire. :P

I am thinking about trying out a plasma pistol/storm shield rider for this reason, and yesterdays game got me thinking about it: If I get in there and use the plasma pistol to blow up a transport, then assaulting the squishy inside is only second nature. I won't loose the attack for the pistol but I will for the shield. So is a PP/CCW load out better?? Has anybody else used a PP to some form of success??

My intuition is that it's not a particularly useful combination, primarily because it contradicts their role as a heavy assault unit. If you need wound allocation shenanigans the meltabomb is 5 points. Also, the only way to get a plasma pistol and storm shield is to lose your thunder hammer in the squad. Me? I'd always take the thunder hammer/fist.

Note, any model may replace their bolt pistol with a plasma pistol or storm shield, however only one model may replace their close combat weapon with a storm shield. Therefore only one model can take a plasma pistol plus storm shield, and if you do so then the unit cannot take a power weapon/claw/fist/hammer.

In hind sight, I would take a Plasma Pistol and CCW so that I still have access to a hammer. I was not concerned about wound allocation, that is easily set up with this unit. I was only probing around to see what other opinions where in regards to running a PP. I understand the pro's and con's, but I want to know what you all think about it!!

I am going to proxy one in one of my two squads for tomorrow night's game to see how it works.
