Bloodthirster Issues

Recommended Posts

Ok, I want to do a Bloodthirster. However the model, was cool...8years ago.

I dont want to do a Balrog Conversion, because A. Everyone does that, B. Im not fighting against Gandalf.

Are there any companys that do cool Bloodthirsters. The Forge World one is great, but not for regular games. The Demon Prince from them is also great, BUT 2handing an axe.

SO any suggestions?

If you got the money, how about a splice conversion between Skulltaker and a regular daemon prince? Use the DP's wings, maybe its body, and its axe with Skulltaker's head, other arm and legs?

A buddy of mine used a daemon prince model, a juggernaut head, and customed a whip for him, and it looks pretty badass: http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/332892-Bloodthirster.html

Yeah I have an original metal bloodthirster... think I'm using a Daemon prince or a balrog for my second...

The Ultraforge Wardemon makes an excellent Bloodthirster. It's big, it's chunky and looks angry; all it needs, IMHO, is a nicer weapon. I have both the Wardemon and the Greater Wardemon, the latter works well as an alternative An'ggrath, too (though is a little shorter because of his pose, so I have him on a taller base to make up for it). I can highly recommend these models.

Heresy Miniatures' Azaroth the Fallen One might also work as a bloodthirster, but the pose is a little less dynamic and the model is made of metal. He has a good choice of weapons, though. (As an aside, my alternative An'ggrath has this axe, which is absolutely huge but looks amazing! The scale would be far too big for a regular Bloodthirster, though.) B'Hakoth from the same range also works well as an alternative Daemon Prince, though he is possibly a little small compared to the GW model.

You might also be able to try Reaper's Abyst, who looks to be about the size of a Bloodthirster judging from other scale pics. I have seen the mini at a FLGS, but haven't seen one assembled or painted in person yet, so can't comment on its quality. Rauthuros, from the same range, is another possibility, but I haven't seen this model in person at all.

The Demon from JMD Miniatures also looks awesome, all he needs are wings and an axe. The model is 54mm high, which is about the same size as GW's monstrous creatures. Also haven't seen it in person, but it looks amazing.

Hope that helps.

That thing looks awesome. Great size, the problem would be it would take a good deal of green stuff to make up the armor and what not.

The forgeworld daemon prince is incredible, i bought two of them. I built one stock, and the other one I put an axe in each hand. The hands are separate, so you could put on whatever hands with whatever weapons you wanted.

Now that is a good idea, albeit expensive. I have the FW prince and was giving him optional magnetic wings to double as a bloodthirster. I've been pondering on how to live with the 2 handed axe when using him as a bloodthirster and the answer has been staring me in the face for AGES. You've just prompted my brain and made me want to punch myself in my head ! Luckily for me my FW prince was miscast and i got sent a whole batch of duplicate parts...........including a second axe! I guess now ill just use the hands from my spare axe to make a single handed axe/whip set of optional magnetic hands.

Now all i need is some very good superglue debonder.............................

Excessus - That link is also very useful. Thats such a nice use of balrog. Cheers for posting it, its inspired me somewhat.

I dont want to threadjack but i thought this may be useful.

I said i'd been inspired so i knocked this up last night with the spare axe i had kicking about. Little bit fiddly but only took and hour or so and i'm really pleased. Hope this is useful for anyone thinking of doing similar. Wings will be coming soon. Tonight i'll be detailing the axe handle and whip!

Thanks,

It was really easy to do! Obviously i have the advantage of having a duplicate axe to muck about with. You can either swap it out for an alternative, or convert the kit permanantly to have a single handed axe/whip combo. All the bits for small axe and whip are from the original double handed axe. I added some fuse wire "lashes to the whip last night, and i started adding a wrap to the axe handle.

And finished.........

Hope that helps, wings still to come!
