Finecast the truth - Please reply

Recommended Posts

I have only bought 2 finecast thing so far, the old necron lord with resurrection orb and the new tyranid boneswords pack. The necron lord had a few little bubbles on the under side of his chest cables, could leave them as is and no one would ever see but on the second sprue that has the warscythe, the whole sprue is bent out in the middle. That should easily be fixed with some warm water. For the tyranid bonswords I only saw a few small bubbles on one sword. As far as mode lines its about the same as a plastic kit or even a little less on both of my finecast models. So all in all I would say I am happy with them.

Ive had my share of Good and bad Exp's with Finecast

First one I bought was a Njal Stormcaller. Was Great

Second was The Emperors Champion and High Marshall Helbrecht

EC- Bent Sword, chest plate not casted right, small bubbles all over.

Halbrecht- Bent sword, Candle sticks on backpack malformed (yes i know they are supposed to look melted but this is alot worse)

I called GW and they shipped me a Halbrecht and EC and this time Halbrecht is Good and the EC still has a bent sword, terrible mold lines, and the one side of the guard ,on the hilt of the sword, is completely missing.

None the less I am not happy with Finecast. GW will be receiving another phone call to have my EC replaced.

Ordered the vanguard veteran box online and had them delivered to the store, checked them and they were awful (bent weapons, clumps of resin clogging up jump pack vents) so swapped them for another box, checked those ones and they were even worse - in the end gave up and swapped them for a Grey Knight terminator box.

On the other hand, bought a box of Plague Marines at the same time and they were flawless - I actually wouldn't have minded a few bubbles on those guys!

My friend just got and returned the Vanguards, all the same problems you have mentioned. He spent ages trying to get the swords straight and just gave up. I'm now emailing to complain my replacement base for my Crimson Fist Captain is worse then the 1st one. The 1st one had a chunk of the should pad missing and the helmet was a mess. The new one has detail missing on the helmet and a skull and most of the bullets are 1/2 missing due to large air bubbles. The model of the captain and the banner are flawless I just don't get it.

I only recently bought my first finecasts and I was pleasantly surprised that none had a single defect worth mentioning. I bough Isabella, Vampire lord (the one with big wing), Manfred, Vlad, Konrad and Archaon.

But this may only be just luck for I had seen some pieces bought by friend that were downright unrecognizable.

My concern and over all distaste in regards to the 'fine'cast line is purely based upon the fact that the models experienced a price increase (yes, I understand why) and yet they still require the purchaser to do additional work on the model just to get it to look as it is supposed to. How many of you have pulled a FC model out of the packaging, shaved off the sprue lines, washed it, and began to paint it?? I bet not to many of you. It does indeed feel like we've been duped into buying a product that, for it cost, should come out workable. Every time. But that is not the case. At all.

I bought a Canis Wolfborn, sent it back. The new SW Standard Bearer, the standard itself was riddled with holes on the etched face (NOT fixable). And lastly the new Thunderwolf Lord, HUGE mold slip across the head (Brother Ramses, buyer beware on this guy, so many complaints about him so far...). In short, I've spent a lot of money and the end result is that I too, will never buy a Failcast model again. Until the quality is fixed, at least.

End of Line

People are forgetting, This is still the first year of finecast,

If a new car company came out like Great wall do you rush out and buy the first range model, hell no cause there will always be teething problems with anything,

im happy to wait till next year cause hey we all survived before finecast and i dislike metal as well,

Until they make a Lysander or pedro i wont bother buying any

yeah i agree there needs to be better quality control, but hobbyists need quantity control.

I think even with limit restrictions people may have them run off their feet, only reason to send out dodgey models. So chill dont be greedy cause next year they will prob have sort it out and everyone will be praising it.

Also the people that buy heaps and want returns for everything ,well would you like to see GW bankrupted. Not me

Just remember their are always teething problems

Cambodia, I'm not sure it's greedy to demand quality from what are, let's face it, very expensive products. Certainly down here in New Zealand when I drop $85 on a box of five Sternguard, I would expect to have them ready to go straight out of the box.

Nor do I think it's unfair to expect to be able to return defective products. Minor defects I don't mind, but when bubbles have basically destroyed a power fist, or the mould was obviously misaligned on a leg, I expect that I should be able to return those models. That's not asking for anything more than basic customer service and quality control.

Now, please don't confuse this for an attack on GW, or even finecast. I love GW, and I really want to love finecast. It has so much potential as a material and I enjoy working with it when it goes right. Once they have the kinks ironed out and their quality control down I'll be thrilled, but until then I reserve the right to complain about and return defective products.

This has got to be one of the most deluded posts I have ever seen. No mean feat for internet message boards!

Are you seriously suggesting that it's okay to ship defective goods? That it's our fault for ordering too many of them and we're rushing poor little GW off their feet? Are you really saying that returning defective goods will bankrupt GW and that this is somehow the fault of the customer?

And to use your own analogy, if a car company were to sell a car with the windows all broken, one wheel missing and the engine had massive holes in it, do you think anyone would consider that to be satisfactory?

Long story short, GW is selling substandard goods and relying on gullible customers (who they know full well are often children) to accept this crap rather than exercising their rights as a consumer. The more people who send the defective items back the better.

Of the Finecast products I've bought, I've had precisely zero issues with a Dark Eldar Archon, Imotekh, a Medusae, or Logan Grimnar. That's right, I said no issues. No bubbles, minimal flash, and no gaping holes in their head. I think Games Workshop has definitely improved it since the first load.

I ve had a decent run of finecast so far, Archon, Incubi, Overlord, Autarch, all good part from archons bendy sword but bent it back by hand didn't need any more heat then rubbing my hands together.

But i will say that i have seen these real bad casts in my local gaming groups, everything from air bubbles to missing limbs, one poor kid and his tired mother went in for the anniversary model and he almost cried when the fist was practiclly all air bubble the orc head was nowere to be found and bubbles all over the feet. Lucky the manager wasn't there at the time cause the dude behind the counter just hid it away and grabbed one of the shelf for him.

To find the truth, never ever turn to the internet! ;)

This whole Finecast mess was the turning point in my gaming career. In my opinion, GW has decided not to cater to the 'Adult Hobbiest' but rather to the masses of kiddies who frequent their stores, kiddies who obviously don't care about quality, or about cost since mum and dad pay for everything.

I remember the announcement and the over the top hype GW had for this crap. 'People were in tears' or something like that... (from excitement I'm assuming). I've only bought one finecast model and that was enough for me $75 bucks for a carnosaur, which needed to be replaced until I got the perfect one. If a company is going to announce, hype and promote the 'finest quality' models, they better deliver. There shouldn't be a grace period or time allowed for growing pains, this company has been in this business for 25+ years, they should have their s**t together. They should've perfected this process before announcing it was 'best product in the universe'

Had GW come out and made their announcemtn like this: "We are trying a new material to replace our metal models. called Finecast. There may be some issues in this process, and we are here to support you any miscasts or errors in our product wil be replaced! Together we can make this transition smooth. Thank you for your support and understanding!" I would be more willing to support them, I would have a different opinion.

I'm one of the lucky people out there who can throw endless amounts of money into this hobby, but I won't throw it GW's way anymore. There are other companies and other game systems out there, who produce models for the hobbiest, and have exceptional quality.

As a consumer, I am not a hostage to GW.

I have purchased three finecast models (Necron IC's) and other than bent staves and such (which I have since learned how to fix) the casts were fine. However, I still buy them with much trepidation as I have plenty of friends that have had disastrous examples of them.

I've had mixed results with the few FC models I've bought, no major fails but a few bubbles and warped weapons to fix. I do try to avoid FC now, if possible, as others have said I've seen to many horrors from the warp sold as perfect FC models

What I fail to understand is GW hyped FC to the heavens, made all kinds of false claims about improved quality, stuffed us all with a price hike and in short failed to deliver. They even had the cheek to bring out a product to fix the problems with their premium product, liquid greenstuff which we get to pay for to fix their failed castings - the genius of GW marketing at work there eh? Yet across the hallway in Willow Lane no less is a GW company that can produce quality resin products with waaay fewer issues than FC has ever had to date and all without the hype of being the finest models the hobby has ever seen. Hint to GW top brass, send your guys from the FC line across the hallway for a chat...

Well personally from the few finecast models I've seen/brought I've had no problems. I much prefer the stuff to metal, easier to work with and I'm not as worried about accidentally dropping the stuff.

Definitely plan on buying more finecast in the future.

AC

I've had a mixed success rate, personally.

I've bought (not all at once) an Emperor's Champion, Ork Warboss & Squig, 25th Anniversary Captain & Queek.

Ork & 25th Captain were perfect.

The sword on the Emperor's Champ has a knackered cross-guard & the whole cast seems...grainy. Queek is near-perfect, but for some reason the top half of the skull on his trophy-rack is missing.

I've still got both of these problem minis - I didn't think to check them until a couple of months after purchase.

My finecast history:

Canis Wolfborn - one bubble under wolfs jaw not really noticable and easily filled

Cyber Wolf - Perfect condition

Grey Hunter Standard Bearer - Perfect Condition

Logan Grimnar - Perfect Condition

Njal Stormcaller - Perfect Condition

Haemonculus - one component missing off sprue (packing issue?)

Urien Rakarth - perfect Condition

Liche Priest - perfect Condition

Apophas - perfect Condition

Dark Angels Chapter Master - perfect condition

I actually really like working with finecast compared to metal models as I have had far more issues with warped metal pieces than I have experienced with the finecast stuff.

I'd also bear in mind the higher propensity for unsatisfied customers to make noise than satisfied customers, which will skew your perceptions if you read a lot of online forums and haven't bought any of the kits.

I've only had to exchange one mini in finecast, which was Queek. Not due to casting defects, but a packing error as they had packed two body sprues and no weapons sprue!

I do think they should give away liquid GS free with larger kits though, just to rectify the inevitable casting issues their new production method is throwing up.

There's also the fact that anyone who does speak up with a positive experience is immediately jumped by the grognards/bittervets and branded a lying fanboy.

I've purchased 1 Finecast product: the 25th Anniversary captain. It was literally the worst cast mini I have ever seen, covered in tons of errors and gaps. I couldn't believe that they shipped out such a jacked model as a $33 premium collectors mini. So I returned it and swore it off for good. If we include my roommate's purchases, then add another 2 purchased, with one of those kits (Sternguard) being in need of replacement. Any Finecast models will be converted with plastic and good resin.
