Wolfsbane
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v77/Yajirobe/Daughter_of_Russ_by_NachoMon.jpg This is a piece by NachoMon, great artist, but this piece has always left the lingering idea of having some female space wolves. More to the point, Sky Claws. 6-8 flying Valkyries lead by a female Wolf Priest (Sif style) seems like an awesome chance to model and add some flare to any army. Is there any record or fiction that has a female space marine? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/248393-valkyries/ Share on other sites
Wulfebane
Newp, none that's official anyway. Maverik_girl has a blog about a Valkyrie type unit and her and Maverik made some conversions, but haven't heard much from her about it lately. Closest you're ever gunna get to female marines are the SoBs if GW's official statements on the matter hold up. Looong ago when 40k was still in Rogue Trader, there was a single (crappy) female model that made it through production, but was promptly discontinued. Wolfsbane
Newp, none that's official anyway. Maverik_girl has a blog about a Valkyrie type unit and her and Maverik made some conversions, but haven't heard much from her about it lately. I know it isn't official, I was just wondering if there was any chapter that has had a female space marine. I think it'd be entirely possible to have a band of females on Fenris that are some cold hearted warriors. They raid other villages for men, and do some "plundering" to keep the numbers of their tribe up. Vicious, mean, and wicked they sail the frozen waters of Fenris looking for signs of land. I just find it odd that on all of the planets that space marines recruit from never has a female been chosen for acts of valor and battle prowess. Anyway I'm just rambling now. I'll look into their blog. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/248393-valkyries/#findComment-3007986 Share on other sites

Grimtooth
Be careful. I mentioned Valks one time and was pretty much castigated....LOL. I think it would be a cool idea and could be done with some Seraphim models from the SoB line with all the stuff cleaned up and wolf bits added. Wolfsbane
@wulfebane, I have thought of trying to justify a small force of Sisters that maybe have been placed on a planet that was founded on a holy site. Within its halls they guard a relic of the wolves (and for some reason it cannot be removed, supporting structure of the building, important to the sect of sisters, ect), to keep war from breaking out between the Imperium of Man he puts a small group of wolf priests to keep an eye on the relic. Over the years the wolf priests have influenced the sect of sisters and have become valkyries. The only thing with sisters as Sky Claws is they don't have strength and toughness of 4, they are not genetically altered super soldiers. I don't know, I may just do it anyway. Wulfebane
My problem with using SoB models is they're so static and their mold configuration is very inconvenient to chopping/converting... plus I can't get past the hair... I considered using DE witch torsos if/when I made valkyries.. still debating whether to use some of the heads or just sculpt my own. Wolfsbane
I agree completely, they need new models so badly. I don't think they will be getting plastic kits anytime soon either. I think the wytch torso's would work with a little green stuff to make cover up the open stomachs on some of the models. I think a lot of the heads would work well, I would more than likely clip off their bound hair, model up a winged helm, and give them some long blonde locks. I'll be spending a lot of my night this evening planning and maybe doing a few sketches. Karack Blackstone
Go right ahead and do it, I say so long as it is done well and is fun for you, why let something like the fluff stop you? The fluff is there to guide and inform, not to stop one from making a fun unit. My reasoning is thus: - no one else says what's fun for you - Rule #1 in any hobby - a female WP and a full female pack of skyclaws equivalent would be interesting, the issue of stats is apparently handled by the OP's declaration of female space marines - Counts-as unit rules seems to make the most sense; the only issue I can think of with the idea presented by wulfebane is that DE heads and torsos may not be PA looking enough normally - Green Stuff can really make this unit stand out well, especially given the current edition PA boxes of the SW variety (C&C with the above line) - I'm thinking of a female WP off and on these days, myself. A whole unit of "skyclaws"/valkyries to be led said leader would be potentially very fun So, again: why let the fluff stop you? It's incomplete anyways, all the sources indicate as such. Wulfebane
If I were to make Valkyrie, it'd be for the purposes of CotS proxies, as their traditional role. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/248393-valkyries/#findComment-3008127 Share on other sites
maverik_girl
wow blonde moment, logged into his account :s Newp, none that's official anyway. Maverik_girl has a blog about a Valkyrie type unit and her and Maverik made some conversions, but haven't heard much from her about it lately. To be fair, it was all mav who came up with the fluff and general idea. I just helped with the brain storming. The only reason why there hasn't been anything with the vinteren valk (winter guard/shield maiden) is because they are the unsung heroes that support the wolves in their daily duties. Such is the life of a daughter of Fenris. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/248393-valkyries/#findComment-3008128 Share on other sites

That is a GREAT idea, brother Wulfebane...I may explore that. Have a Valkerie overlooking the battle as a CotS is pretty cool concept. No female primarch means that there can be no female space marines, tough I heard in the fluff it HAS been tried with horrible results. I guess you could argue that you cannot have a "y" chromosome, I also realize that a lot of the "death worlds" that the Space Marines bring their stock in from are very feudal and therefore have no idea of women's rights. I would just like to see it happen. I'm sure it will never happen. I believe I'll have my wolf priestess be Ana, she traveled far and went through much to scale the peaks that surround the Fang and pass the dangers after the the chooser of the slain took away her Ragnar. Orphus
I'm making a (hopefully) workable Space Wolves / Sisters of Battle force, click on the link in my sig. Brother Seraphion
I suppose you could also justify it by saying that one of the two or both of the unknown primarchs could be females... Unless that's been completely denied by GW as a possibility, and I just haven't read the relevant lore. But yeah hats could be an idea Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/248393-valkyries/#findComment-3008622 Share on other sites
Zagar
Brothers! I am not entirely sure, but I seem to remember that GW wrote something about the geneseeds not being compatible with the female bodies, as the geneseeds ultimately originates from the Emperor. That being said. With that being said, I have started expanding my SW army into apoc-size and have decided to add some IG to the space wolves as a PDF. Some of my veterans will be female, namely the female gang from necromunda, I can't remember the name of it. Two reasons for this, SW do employ mortal men and women to work in the fang, so it works there. And it says more than once in the fluff that some IG regiments are partly or entirely made up of women. /Zagar Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/248393-valkyries/#findComment-3009090 Share on other sites
Khine
Brothers! I am not entirely sure, but I seem to remember that GW wrote something about the geneseeds not being compatible with the female bodies, as the geneseeds ultimately originates from the Emperor. That being said. /Zagar I also vaguely remember why they said it. Well back in the day they produced a female model of a space marine.. or maybe it was something else i forget. Anyway, some feminists found out and got their panties in a bunch and decided to protest the model saying that it was objectifying woman. yes we are seeing a lot more female models in recent years and that this could have been a rumour but it could still be the reasoning behind the lack of female space marines in the fluff. With all the testing that our wolf priests seem to undertake in order to control the wulfen within, i'm sure at some point they would have tried to bring in some female SWs. Especially considering that the daughters of Fenris are just as courageous and battle hardened as every male. Aqui
There is only one way for there to be Female Marines. Alternate Universe. If the theory pans out for every action taken there are an infinite alternatives. If this be the case, then in another Universe (even if it's just the one...), Terra wasn't unified by the Emperor, it was unified by the Empress. No conflict regarding geneseed then, would there? :P Just don't ask me to name all of the known Primarchs in that Universe! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/248393-valkyries/#findComment-3009289 Share on other sites
alphariusomegon20
Closest thing to a "valkyrie" in official fluff is one of the Aettguard in Battle of the Fang. The Aettguard definitely isn't Marines though, they're closer to a PDF or IG unit. Buliwyf
I've been scouring the blagosphere for Valkyrie/Shield Maiden-esque figures, etc. If you're looking for things fluff-wise, you're going to come up empty handed. However, I agree with Karack: It's your army. Do what's fun. If you just made an BC squad of Fenrisian females, that'd be great. Using them as your Chooser of the Slain is also a legitimate idea. For me personally, I want only to paint some stellar models and not necessarily field them as units, but still integrate them into my army. I'm going to use mine as objective markers and work them into some terrain to give my battles a truly Fenrisian feel. I've used Mav's post for inspiration, but I'm largely basing my Shield-Maidens off of Lenneth from Valkyrie Profile (click here or here). Using them as objectives, I don't feel the need to use GW exclusively, and ReaperMinis has some excellent models.
