Ideas when going against BA

I've been sticking with space wolves longer than anyone else in my group that meets up to play games so I can field anything. Every time I go against this one guy in our group that gets 1st every tournament it just seems like I can't beat him when he runs Blood Angels.... I'm thinking that I'm lacking focus against him or something, but I'll give you guys his list so that you can help me with target priority cause I don't know what to focus on really.

That's pretty much what he runs... He gives me problems with target priority alot with it being spread out. Like I said I can field anything for wolves. I just need to know what to focus my long fangs and greyhunters w/meltas in rhinos on.

 

Also ahead of time... Thankyou brothers for any input you can give me on this.

With that kinda list, it shouldnt be a problem for you. You have your long fang.. use them well use the ML to take out the Rback n LC for the Pred. Having your opponent spread out will actually help you since you can chew your way from one side. Use your Long Fang on 2 target.. if you can stun or shanken is good enough.. destroy even better. I suggest taking a squad of 5 HB long fang. They work wonders. if you have plasma canon in the LF use it on mephiston.. no invul :) .

Usually when I play against him he's one of those guys that don't like to lose.... He keeps one squad of assaults in reserve to give mephiston a transport and he usually gets first turn against me by luck or my club does this off the wall mission that the store owner creates. He moves everything up 18 and pops smoke. He rolls extremely well for anyone playing this game. The sternguard have 2 meltas in each squad and also 2 meltas in each squad of assault guys. Mephiston stays in the transport he's in until he has a good opportunity. He's really clever and tries to get under your skin while playing against you.

 

I run 3 squads of long fangs w/missiles, 4x9 man squads of greyhunters w/melta, standard, wolf guard attached w/combi melta/fist in rhinos as a staple in my lists... The others it's according how I feel for the day and since greyknights and tyranids been prominant in the club I'm in. I run a couple of rune priests with a few wolfguard left out of the ten man squad in another rhino... sometimes swapping out for a landraider of some type.

With his assault packs and multiple meltas, sounds like he has to close ground fast or will be vulnerable to fire. I would maybe switch to Razorbacks and make him come to you, all the while mowing them down with RB turrets.

 

I started realizing that against assault squads, I was having my GHs leave their transport too early to take some rapid fire shots, which often don't take out as many as I'd like, then the GH are stuck in the open to take fire as well and lose enough from multiple focus-fire to at best draw in the upcoming combat. So I switched to Razorbacks and kept my GH embarked (not often.. hard to resist the urge to charge). I ended up losing a lot less guys while waiting for the assault squads to pop my RBs, and often they were foolish enough to be in range to take damage themselves.

You may want to think about taking Bjorn for the ancient tactician. If you can take that first turn from him, i think you will have a far higher chance of beating him. That is arguably one of the most important parts of playing BAs.

 

Also, you might want to think about taking two units of swift claws with WG attachments. Melta attackbike with a powerfist and just hunt down those transports. Yes they are going to be a sacrificial unit but they should distract enough of his squads in order for your long fangs to bring some pain.

I find a few twin melta speeders useful against this sort of list as he is coming straight down your throat they are great for taking out transports. move 6 fire both melta. a typhoon missile/melta speeder also works for this. Razorbacks will also help give you few more shots to destroy his vehicles runepriest w Living lightning to fire out a rhino

 

The BA player is spreading out to make you spread out so he target one part of your list at a time Keep your grey hunters together so he has to fight them all at once and cant use his speed to isolate them. hold back thin him out with firepower keep tight. charge him once he close to deny FC. Mephistons transport then the sterngards then the predators would be my firing order

 

but I would be looking to have 3 LF packs 3RB's 2+LS RP w/LL so you have the firepower to stop him in his tracks obviously this will vary depending on your points value

@wulfebane.... I'm guilty of getting over zealous with my infantry coming out of transports to early also and doing nothing as well. Usually happens when my dice rollling craps out on me.

 

My club plays 2k lists for everything.

 

I'll try to post more on here. Been on here a while without posting cause of family troubles that affected my drive in this game.
