My Battleforce, codex and Thunderwolf cavalry have arived today. im still waiting on the meltas and the second set of twc.

I have assembled my twc and drop pod, (2 with stormshield& ccw+ 1 with pf+ ss). i have had a flick through the codex and to me there is not an obvious best loadout for the scouts. i have a set of meltas on the way so i will use on of them but i cant decide between ccw+bp or bolter. and help on the matter would be apriciated, as would your opinions on what i should consider getting next. At some stage ill get round to writing up a armylist but i will familiarise myself with the codex first.

SuRge.

Grey Hunters are by far the best overall troop unit in our Codex between the two, and arguably the best loyalist troop unit in the game.

BP and CCW plus some BG and CCW would make a fine GH unit, as in the Codex for the Wolves it specifically states normal Grey Hunters are equipped with Bolter, Bolt Pistol and a CCW, typically a Chainsword.

Blood Claws are okay, just not priced well for their points values. They make a strong unit with a WP, WGPL with a Fist, and 14 BC's all thrown in a LRC kitted as wanted for both the troops and the tank. As the tank is one pricey piece of equipment, one is often the most any WL can get into a normal list. LF's are a very strong HS slot, so consider wisely what one does from here.

In short, OP, GH's and LF's (devastator box) can't do you wrong.

BP+CCW for me, every time- especially since youre taking a melta, wich is an assault weapon.

Walk in, shoot the melta *and maybe a plasma pistol?* and blow up a transport, or a basilisk- then charge the men inside, or the members of its squadron and kill them up close.

If you want long range scouts then take some snipers, but I wouldnt take bolters.

Any OBEL scouts are always given a melta. A group of snipers generally don't take them and also often don't OBEL. If you do choose to OBEL your scouts, the general assumption is that at best you'll get 1, maybe 2 melta shots in the game before assaulted and/or overwhelmed and ultimately annihilated. With that in mind, most people opt to keep their pistols in leu of bolters in anticipation of getting assaulted, as well as because they're often in range with pistols regardless due to the OBEL manuever.
right now i am using a 5 man pack with 2 plasma pistols, 1 melta gun, and a wolf guard in TDA w/combi-melta & power fist. that's 4 shots at ap1 and 2. all have a chance to pen rear armor and i can assault if need be.

Wolf Guard in TDA cannot join a scout pack. (p86)

Nice start OP.

Scouts: If planning to utilize Operate Behind Enemy Lines, the BP/CCW is the way to go as you will be wanting to assault the turn you come in and cannot do so if you fire rapid fire weapons. A plasma pistol on one adds a little more tooth to tank killing as adding a Mark of the Wulfen improves close combat. Of course a meltagun is essential in their tank popping role along with melta bombs.

Battleforce: The opinion varies on if the Space Wolves Pack alone is just a little too wolfed out. If you feel it is, and easy way to expand your force is to buy two Space Marine Tactical Squads. You can then mix match the parts to break up all the wolfed out SW Pack box. In addition this gives you two flamers, two meltaguns, and two missile launchers to add to your bitz armory. Even just aaddiningone Space Marine Tactical Squad to mix/match would then allow you to field a unit of Wolf Guard in power armor.

Good luck.

wow. i can not believe i missed that. i must have read that a hundred times. thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for all the fast replies. I will equip them with a meltagun, a plasma pistol and ccws. Is it possibe to give scouts a storm bolter? i dont see it in the options but on pg76 of codex SW there is one with one. just wondering because i have a few spare and the are good for assaulting.

Can't believe I never noticed that image before. No, wolf scouts cannot, but WG pack leaders in PA can.

I've seen a unit with one Meltagun and two Power Weapons used on the internet a fair bit. I'd like to try that out myself but struggling a bit on where to pull arms with a power weapon from. What's the best bet here - hack off one of the combat blades and add the blade of a power weapon?

Edit: Oh yeah, and the rest with CCW an BP.

If your incredibly lucky you can come across the old metal power tactical short blades on the net or get the imperial guard command spure PW. I find they work well. Another alternative is just painting the combat blade as a power weapon.
