Hello my brothers,

I have never entered a golden daemon before, as i didnt consider myself good enough.

I have been working hard over the last 18 months to improve my paintign skills and i have recently finished this for a painting comp in my local store soon.

Lets have at it with some constructive critiques............or just postivie comments as not sure if i should have a crack at the daemon or not.

Cheers

WOW!! That model looks great brother!! I like the slightly deeper blue on the armor, the gold really pops, and the highlighting and battle damage look sharp and crisp!!

The pose is also great!! I have slowly moved over to using the assault marine legs for my GH's as well, I just prefer the movement over the static look.

Well Done!!

End of Line

Pose is awesome. Colors are vibrant and crisp and the battle damage is believable. Tattoo is bada$$! Consider it stolen.

Criticism would be that your highlighting is too streaky and doesn't look like it was done with a ultra-fine brush or a steady hand. I'd also maybe add a few more flecks of battle damage and/or some wear'n'tear like discoloration around the feet. This is looking through GD-colored lenses. If this weren't for the GD competition, I'd say you'd easily beat everyone at my LGS, so don't think that I don't find this exceptional already.

Great model! A really impressive start fella, but you know that already right? :tu:

I''ll start the critique by saying that I think you need to commit more time to ensuring the blend between the highlights is a lot smoother, in some areas it's a bit rough for GD.

The best example I can see is on the left leg on the upper thigh, where you've highlighted the detail in the armour, the highlight stroke is at least 1mm wide, which imho is not really sharp enough to impress at that level.

I also think you'd need to pay more attention to some of the details on the mini, for example the cables on his midriff and the inner exhaust vents on the backpack don't appear to be highlighted. Personally I think they should both be a different colour to the armour for contrast, but that's subjective of course.

Now that might sound like a heap of negative feedback, but my intent is to be constructive, you're got really great technique and with a bit more patience and time on the mini, I think you could really step it up a level.

Out of interest how long did it take to paint this mini?

Geometric shapes are cool, but parts of yours look unintentionally asymmetrical. I would try to work on getting those lines more even.

Maybe try to fine-tune the tattoo; again, the concept is good, but the execution leaves me wondering what exactly it is. Also some light glazing with your skin tone will help subdue the tattoo, and make it look like it's under the skin, rather than painted on top.

Your gold needs deeper contrast, and I'd consider a bit more highlighting on the hair.

The palette for the armor is nice, but some of your transitions need smoothing, and you might want to bring your highlights up even more than they already are.

You've done a nice job on the face, and you're off to a solid start. Keep it up! :)

Very nice Ironbear,

- Ive been to several Gamesday's and seen alot of Golden Demon models up close and personal. My personal opinion, I think you would be very competative in a GD competition. The posse and expression are spot on......it shows that you noww exactly how to get the perfect "feeling of the moment" from your model. The facial painting is great, Id say the eyes are the only point id polish up. I love the tatto you painted on there, great detail....and its that kind of stuff that i believe the judges would love. Keep it up and post some more stuff.

I'm not feeling the face for some reason? as for my input.. there are two wolf brothers here that I know who are far more knowledgeable with painting than I do, so heed their advice! but my only critique is that his gun arm should be raised slightly higher to match/level where his eyes should meet.

It looks great and it its on the right way!

Some things to improve, they are small things, details that can make yours minis great!

Shadows and contrast, you can shade some parts to make a visible difference and mark volumes.

Try to make thinner the black lines of the armor, and try to not usa black, better a mix of the basecolor+blue+black

The face is awesome, try to paint the eyes to round the circle.

You're doing very well.

Firstly great model and paintwork. i like the base too.

My 2 cents however.

Pose wise I don't think this is quite there. Its good, but too many incosistencies and there just isn't enough flow. example being the chainsword angle, it doesn't flow with the legs or direction of the character. It should be angled more opposite to accentuate the movement of the character. As has already been said too the pistol is too low. Finally have a basic goal when setting up your character and how you will show this. Yours is obviously running, movement, direction, speed, so every piece of the model should help describe this which isn't happening. The mohawk faces forward, the wolf tooth necklace on the bolt pistol also points forward, these all go against what the rest of the model is pushing towards. You may also want to add some kind of robe, pelt to help accentuate the movement. Its all these small details that turn good to great. I would definately post up a wip of the model before starting painting. The best paint job in the world will not win you anything if the model below isnt as good as it can be.

Check this guy out, hes a master at describing movement through pose and using accessories to help accentuate the movement.

Very nice,

Will or have you been touching up the errors on the highlights? (mostly noticeable on his left greave) and kneepad.

They could do with smoother blending.

He's certainly above TT standard in my opinion. Well done - keep at it.
