Redeemers- "Never Forgive, Never Forget"

So this is my first time posting to a Warhammer blog... So be gentle.

I am new to Warhammer 40k, and I am looking to start a Space Marine army.

I know that everyone and their cousin has one, but I just really like the organized futuristic look of them.

I have a codex and a Captain Sicarius figure. I was thinking about getting the Battleforce and a Landraider Redeemer.

I figured I would use the 5 man combat squad as a Sternguard Veteran squad and this would give me 2x Core units and one of everything else.

I would be putting the veterans with the captain in the landraider.

Hoping to get around a 1,000 points for this group.

Can anyone with some expertise give me some insight on this?

I would especially be interested in hearing from a Relictors players, as I am planning to make my chapter of of them.

My idea for a chapter...

So I really really like the look of the Relictors army (grey and black).

I like that it is much more toned down and less flashy than other chapters.

I think they look the most like what a real Space Marine army.

I am only going to do a few alterations for my chapter, such as grey shoulder pads with silver trim.

I haven't decided on an emblem as of yet but I am open to suggestions.

Chapter beginning...

So this is how I figure my chapter would start.

For those who don't know about the Relictors, they are a Space Marine army whose motto is "the Ends Justify the Means."

They use Chaos weapons against Chaos.

Needless to say a lot of other Space Marine chapters have a problem with this and thus the Relictors have been labeled traitors.

I would like a Relictors captain who experiences the devastating effect of Chaos first hand an dedicate the rest of his days to redeeming himself for his past decisions.

The chapter would continue to carry similar colors because they need to show where they came from, but they will not resort to lowering themselves to the use of Chaos.

They aren't so much out to prove themselves to others, but to make amends for their own faults.

I would have them being a very pious chapter, though maybe that isn't so different from other chapters I suppose.

I have more to say, but let's leave it at that for a start.

So... What does everyone think?

So the idea is a Relictors Successor Chapter?

I could see that working potentially. The Relictors are a 21st Founding Chapter, so you could be maybe 24/25th (enough time to have proved worthy of providing a training cadre for a new Chapter but before all of the Relictors chaos issues came to light).

Having said that, the big problem with that is I’m not sure how recently the Relictors stopped being the Fire Claws and started being the Relictors? I have a feeling all of the Chaos stuff has happened quite recently, maybe even since the 26th Founding, making it impossible for there to be a Successor Chapter that is post- name/colour scheme/attitude to chaos -change.

I think you'd have to be a Fire Claws Successor and then why would your Chapter take on the grey/black scheme or have any guilt over the use of chaos?

I guess you could set it after the Relictors excommunication, and have your force being a Company attempting to return to the Emperor’s (and the Imperium’s) good graces, hence why they've chosen the name Redeemers? After all, are you planning on building a whole 1,000 Marine Chapter on the table top? Very few of us even get 100 Marines together (unless playing epic) so even just one repentant Company is probably all you need fluff-wise.

You are quite right...

*In the middle of the ninth century of the 41st Millennium, the Emperor's Tarot revealed the existence of a badly damaged space hulk emerging from the Warp near the forge world of Stygies in the Segmentum Obscurus, and the Fire Claws mobilised to intercept it. The hulk, codified as the Captor of Sin, contained a renegade warband led by a Tzeentchian Chaos Chamption known as the Excoriator. *

That's ~850.M41 and the last Founding, 26th, was in 738.M41.

It could still work though.

According to this article; "The tribes [of Torva Minoris, the Fire Claws homeworld] are known to revere the artefacts carried by the Space Marines as divine weaponry that can only be wielded by true and worthy servants of the Emperor; an attitude that seems to have been carried forwards into the dogma of the Chapter." Therefore, the successor Chapter with the same attitude could see the use of Chaos-weapons as sacrilege and after excommunication of Relictors, they have taken on themselves the burden of atonement... or something like that.

I really like the idea of a "Redeemer"...try a few color variations over on the Space Marine Painter, and post your choice. Or actually paint up a figure and post a pic. It sounds like this chapter could have some real potential..

and welcome brother to the B&C!
