brainwashed
3018710[/url]']Nice Wolf Priest I must borrow that Idea, Is the head-swap easier with Finecast? And I think you should keep the red helmets on you Blood Claws..(Another idea I might borrow ^_^ ) I look forward to seeing more! Jaegar thanks for the reply. The Fine cast stuff really shines with conversions in my opinion. I've done a couple metal Ulric headswap conversions to a metal terminator body in the past and to make it look alright I needed to use a dremel tool to cut and remove parts. The Fine Cast cuts easily and is a material that reminds me more of a molded rubbery plastic than like an epoxy resin. When cutting it its almost porous like the molded toy pencil topper erasers we used to get as kids. It's really easy to use in conversions. An entire model made of it might be a hassle long term though as the crozius mace felt brittle, almost like it wanted to break off. brainwashed
a quick update on the Wolf Priest. We have two kids in diapers so I get only an hour or so every other day to work on the hobby. Progress will be slow. :D I decided to make an attempt and DV8's great pose even though I am a green stuff rookie. Here's some pics of the new set of legs. Do you think the hip and upper leg are too far apart? I'm not sure I'm happy with the spacing. Maybe this is already off to a bad start. What do you think? Do I forge ahead with it as is or redo that hip? Wulfebane
They're pretty far apart unless your shooting for true scale. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/248733-new-wolves-wip-pics/page/2/#findComment-3028583 Share on other sites
brainwashed
I was shooting for what DV8 did with with his to bump up the height a small amount but not fully go to true scale. When I look at the pics I can see that I should have kept the hip/top of the leg more in line with the codpiece and if I wanted height get it from the knee joint being extended a small amount. I might redo this tonight. There's a part of me that just wants to get it painted though and not over think every detail. Wulfebane
There's a part of me that just wants to get it painted though and not over think every detail. Don't rush it. I'm not saying gild the lily, but bottom line, you've spent a lot of time and energy on it, don't jump ahead until you feel you've gotten it right. If something looks off to you, it probably is. It'll be more satisfying to see on the tabletop if it looks just how you wanted it to, rather than taking shortcuts. I took your advice and think it's paying off but it's slow going given how little time I have to dedicate to the project with the two little guys in diapers. Just a quick update to share the progress. Both legs are finally done and posed close to correct. I'm not really happy with the hip and knee joints but I'm hoping that they will look better one there is paint on them. The greenstuff work is rough to say the least. I'm close to being able to prime the model now and hope to at least get that far this weekend. Let me know what you all think so far. Thanks again to Wolfbane and DV8 for all the help and inspiration - it's appreciated! Wolftracks8
Looking good Duane. Take your time. Let the ideas come and then slowly implement them. The GS will look fine after a coat of primer....slow and steady. Don't rush it. I'm trying to be patient but it's tough to not rush it out when I don't have a lot of time to spend on it. Hopefully I'll get some primer on this guy this weekend. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/248733-new-wolves-wip-pics/page/2/#findComment-3038021 Share on other sites

brainwashed
Thanks Kassill, Loken86 and Russ Brother 92! Just a quick update on the Wolf Priest. I managed to get a base coat on him and started on his base. I'm trying the cork tiles but it just looks like cork tiles broken and layed flayed to me. Am I doing this right? Does anyone have some good advice on what color to do the sand/gravel on the bases for Codex Gray Space Wolves? How about a dark brown on the sand such as Calthan Brown with some gray rock and snow with dead pale grass? I just switched out his right shoulder for the old Space Wolves sprue wolf skull shoulder. I think it will look better than a decal on a white field despite not having the same rim style as the left shoulder pad. Here is the new Wolf Priest nest to my old Ulric on a temporary base. It's a huge difference! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/248733-new-wolves-wip-pics/page/2/#findComment-3044885 Share on other sites

brainwashed
Just a quick update. I managed to get the Wolf Priest nearly finished. I need to get snow on the base and repair the broken mace. I should have pinned it when I assembled the model. The pose in this picture is leaning back more than the actual model is in person. The torso hasn't been glued together yet and it looks like it tipped back as I took the pictures! Apologies. I think I am going to change the great company I am working and am looking at a darker tone for my Wolves in general. I have been trying to recreate the dark look of the marines on the cover of the 5th Edition Space Marine Codex and think finally have recipe that I can live with. This red is using the new Mephiston Red which is brighter than the old Mecharite Red, but I think for the table top in a darkish gaming environment, the slightly brighter red works better. What do you think of the darker Blood Claw with the red shoulder? I need to get some yellow on the pack markings and knee, but over all I think this is more the way I want the army to look. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks all! Blood Claw test model basically using Insane Psyopath's painting same method but with a red Great Company shoulder instead of black. I saw a recent post by him recently and our paint recipe's sound identical, and since I love how his army looks so I might go with the darker style. edited for typos.
