Salamanders Army

Recommended Posts

Hey! I am a fairly lame 40k player as far as painting goes. But I have decided to get my act together and paint for reals! I am painting a Sallies army and will be posting pictures and updates soon. I have a lot of guys, so this thread will hopefully last a while.

Don't worry too much about your painting skill, there are a lot of great painters here who can give you advice on how to improve. I'm not one of them :D (beyond the most basic advice), but I am looking forward to seeing what you can do.

Thanks! I will be using Lester Bursley for a lot as far as color choice goes. He is a great painter and I have watched a lot of his videos. His slamader paint scheme is great, I really like the more vibrant with the darker shadowy areas. I am low on money goes and will be rather slow on progress ( getting a model done), but will get all of my models as far as i can as soon as possible. Thanks again for the encouragement!

I've not really done any injured marines, I'd suggest starting by painting some flesh tones on the stump then give them a very thin glaze of red. (Mix a tiny amount of red with a lot of water, the water will look pinkish, but it will give your flesh tone a red/inflamed hue when it dries.

Blood won't really work on armour as dark as yours, because dark reds won't really show up on dark green, you could just paint it with black (because blood is transparent you have to think about red mixed with the colour beneath it).

Great start though!

I will probably be able to paint blood on the armor after the marine is done because salamanders, once completed, have a much lighter color. The dark color you see is an undercoat to have shadows once the main color is painted on. Thanks for the advice on how to paint the actual wound though!

Will probably have the termies done by tomorrow! But only with the black and green coats of paints. Still am working on procuring some money for the wash in Lester Bursley videos... thinking of deviating from the video, using badab black. You know, instead of using the washes from awesomepaintjob.com. Anyways! See you later!

Ah, fair enough I thought you were going for a slightly darker look!

If you can, I'd really advise getting a hold of some Tamiya Clear Red, it's by a long haul the best paint for blood out there, it's glossy, red and transparent.

Three big slices of win.
