ZAChos
I've been wanting to start a new marine army for a while. My ultramarines are old and tired now, and I know I could do them better. They just need a little bit of work to make them playable, but I don't have much motivation for them at the moment. My Eldar are fun, but I shan't talk bout them here. I will say I'm getting burned out on them. So, as a change is as good as a rest I decided to start an extremely slow new army, and the choice was the easiest one I've ever made. Have you ever heard of DV8? If you haven't then you should have. inspirational is too small a word. So Lamenters it would be. The plan in the long run is to have the army playable either pre-black-rage (represented by codex:space marines), or post (represented by codex:blood angels). Magnetisation should help with this, but as I don't yet have the blood angels codex, detailed list writings will have to wait. For now, something I know will be in both armies, is assault squads, so I picked up some leftover bits from project Ultra and got modelling. And here is where you start actually paying attention: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v474/ZAChos/40k/Lamenters/IMG_0496.jpg Both of my assembled marines so far. I picked up some grey knight falchions to act as DV8 pattern CCW. My thinking is that the lamenters quickly realised in their war against the tyranids that the shock value of chainswords has no added effect on fearless aliens other than making a massive amount of noise. They have replaced their assault squads chainswords with falchions, allowing them to strike as silently as they need to, while the heavy blades maintain a good deal of the shock trauma of the chain weapons. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v474/ZAChos/40k/Lamenters/IMG_0495.jpg This one took the most work. His legs were from another previous project of mine which started with me hacking up marines legs, and then leaving them around my room. It never got further than that, but after some cut up paperclips, and some resculpting, he's ready for duty again. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v474/ZAChos/40k/Lamenters/IMG_0493.jpg My favourite of the two. Also the first one assembled. One of the reasons I started this now, is that my local store is running a painting competition, and I decided I wanted to enter. This guy will be the armies test model, and my entry to the competition. So, just modeling so far, but let me know what you all think. Thanks for looking. Lachdannan
You have some nice poses there. Quite like the green stuff hearts, and the second marine looks great. My only quip would be the first marine, where you have green stuffed his out-stretched arm. To me it just looks slightly off, as if its a little too long. Other than that, look forward to seeing more, and paint and colour ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/249009-a-beginning-of-sorts/#findComment-3016461 Share on other sites

ZAChos
Thanks guys. @Brother Syth: I agree with you on the arm. Next time I'll spend a bit longer checking scale. As he's just a foot slogger, I'll leave him for now, but I recognise my failings and will strive to correct them. Oh wait, that's not blood angels... @Vairocanum: Thanks for the complement. Your wish is my command: I've always had problems with telling my squads apart, as tiny numbers are difficult to see in the massive punch ups that tend to generate around my buddy's guard swamp. So to aid in distinguishing squads, each one will be modeled so they are doing one particular thing. This squad has just disembarked from their transport and taking some potshots as they go. They'll be modeled so that when arranged around the sergeant, two are looking to the left, and two to the right. So here is their flamer guy. Sorry, but he's black and white again, as his previous colour scheme of barbie pink and navy blue isn't really suitable for a family forum like this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v474/ZAChos/40k/Lamenters/IMG_0497.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v474/ZAChos/40k/Lamenters/IMG_0498.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v474/ZAChos/40k/Lamenters/IMG_0504.jpg He was going to be looking down the barrel, but I decided sweeping the flamer across his front would look just as cool and require less pinning (he still has 6 pins in him). Part two is some scouts. I really like the idea of infiltrating some scouts with a locator beacon and dropping some assault squads on them. A few problems though: *I don't like the new scout models. *Metal scouts are freaky expensive for such low point models. So green stuff then. What are the problems? I don't like the arms, the chins, the lack of necks, or their hair. Arms are easy. Bit of cutting, bit of pinning, bit of green stuff and they'll be passable. Then I had to shave down the head to a proper shape, give him pretty boy blood angel hair and sculpt some kind of neck: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v474/ZAChos/40k/Lamenters/IMG_0499.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v474/ZAChos/40k/Lamenters/IMG_0500.jpg These guys are all going to be modeled standing, gathered around their sergeant, as he calls down reinforcements using a powerful locator beacon built into his armour. After sorting this guys head, I had some extra green stuff, so I did another. I didn't like this guys mouth either, so I attempted to sculpt him a new one: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v474/ZAChos/40k/Lamenters/IMG_0502.jpg He'll probably be the next guy to be assembled, and I'll use any spare green stuff from that to do the next guys head and so on. Thanks for stopping by. Zac Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/249009-a-beginning-of-sorts/#findComment-3016914 Share on other sites
AlexCrute
I love the flufftification for the falchions. They don't get clogged with chitin too. The facial surgery looks great too. Vairocanum
looks great! but on the first scout, the hair in the front looks a bit weird (though thats just my personal opinion). the facial reconstruction of the second scouts head looks really well done :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/249009-a-beginning-of-sorts/#findComment-3017469 Share on other sites

Andrew J
Wow way to go on the scout. Good proportions you got there. Your GS skills are good. I would have just gotten some new heads from a bits store but thats just me.
