Dark Angels Killteam

Well, my LGS is doing a lot of killteam this month so I figured I would work on a DA killteam of my own. I decided on scouts --mainly because after doing terminators for my LPC, and a second terminator squad that I've been working on I needed a bit of a break from TDA :tu:

The killteam will consist of a scout squad with sniper rifles + missile launcher, plus a typhoon landspeeder. The fluff of the successor chapter I'm working on has our elite scouts working as members of the ravenwing. Because of that, I wanted these guys to look kind of intimidating as well as ravenwing-ish. Instead of space marines in training I am envisioning this killteam as more of a team of skilled veterans who could inflitrate into an area, then covertly stalk and hunt down the fallen in any environment.

I've used bits from both scout boxes, the helmets are from forgeworld (cadians with respirators), and the hoods were greenstuffed (my first attempt at anything like this, so it's a bit crude, but hopefully it will look ok once it gets some paint on it).

here is the work so far:

Well anyway, it should make a fun killteam, and be a cool squad to add to my army! I'll be sure to post more up as I progress with these guys, for now though the greenstuff is curing.

Yeah, that is kind of what I figured. I knew the scouts were not going to be the most competitive choice (I really wish we got cammo cloaks), but I liked them for fluff reasons, and to give me something non-terminator related to work on for a bit before I get back to work on the rest of my deathwing squads.
Scouts with respirators and helms? Why not?Great stuff, the one thing though is thats a bit off is the vox box.Not the meaning of subtlety.

Haha! Whoops, I assumed it was some kind of radio, maybe I'll just clip off the megaphone looking part then.

No they look just fine, its just i was taken aback from the prospect of a scout carriying such stuff on his back B)

Yeah, totally cool looking killteam, it actually Looks like a killteam too. Scouts ifiltrate and call for fast moving support.

I'm loving the low key 'camo' on the cloaks, the little RW symbol on the back of one dude and the large iconon the speeder. Nice touches.

Thanks for the comments guys! "sinister" was the look I was going for, so I'm glad I was able to achieve that with my (very) modest GS and painting skills. <_< For me a big reason I never took scouts in my lists (well aside from being in the elite slot, and not getting access to teleport homers), is that I was never really happy with the look of the models, so I'd encourage anyone who feels the same to also feel free to blatantly and shamelessly steal this theme! :D

Well the killteam did pretty well this weekend, I was worried that the scouts wouldn't really pull their weight, and admittedly the speeder did most of the heavy lifting, but I was happy overall. I played two games, the first was against a grey knights killteam which consisted of one venerable dreadnought with 2 twin-linked autocannons and psybolt ammo (ouch!). I was really worried about this game as we were setting up, but as luck would have it, I got first turn, and the landspeeder (who I had given the tank hunter USR), fired 2 kraks into it which penetrated and wrecked it, and on the venerable reroll it exploded! It was some lucky rolling on my part, but it worked out well :P

The second match was against a pretty sub-optimal dark eldar killteam which consisted of 3 reaver jetbikes and 5 wyches without transport, a venom or ravagers would have been much more worrisome, but this was what my opponent had painted up, and much to his credit he refused to play with unpainted minis. I focused all my fire on the reaver armed with a heat lance since it was the only threat to the landspeeder's AV 10 (wyches might have had some haywire grenades too, can't remember, but I wasn't nearly as worried since they weren't that fast). The heat lance reaver went down in my first turn shooting with some good dice rolling, and after that it was more or less a game of keep away from the wyches as I fired kraks into them. Won that game with only one casualty (the radioman / sniper above who I kept firing at the wyches and let them get too close).

All in all the killteam did well, but admittedly the competition was not very tough and I rolled well. Biggest thing I figured out --in 200 point games, a 75 point landspeeder is king :P Too bad we can't take 2! Although a list with a basic 125 point dread and a 75 point speeder could be really wicked. Come to think of it, that combo in the DA codex might be about the toughest killteam around, although I would feel kind of guilty playing it since it seems a bit cheesy B)

I love the gritty and grimy effect that you've achieved with your scouts CAM77. Very different to the ones I made for the LPC. Yours have the subtle effect that gives the impression that the scouts will blend in with any environment... somehow..you've captured the stealthy essence of the scouts even with the land speeder hovering in the background the whole image oozes silences and subtlety... Nice work! :P
