winterdyne
Thought I'd share this here - my first kit back from the casters - a 28-35mm scale Spartan Shield, Spear and Lakonian shortsword and scabbard. This is exactly the same design spear I used on the Sanguinary Phalanx commission (just without the purity seals). Cast in a fairly flexible resin, the spear staff has quite a bit of flex to it (even when painted) so it shouldn't snap so long as it's kept / transported sensibly. Alternatively you could simply cut the pieces off the shaft and use a brass rod. Bubble free! Here's the unpainted pics: http://www.winterdyne.co.uk/products/spartan_set.jpg Very rapid paintjob last night just to have something to show. http://www.winterdyne.co.uk/products/spartan_set_painted.jpg A better pic on a terrain item: http://www.winterdyne.co.uk/products/spartan_set_painted2.jpg And a pic of the spears on some marines: http://www.winterdyne.co.uk/maz/images/commissions/sanguinaryphalanx/all_1024.jpg The symbol on the shield is cast on, but would be easy enough to file off if you wanted a plain shield. The spear and shield grips are pretty close to the right diameter to fit in a marine hand, but to fit the spear you'd need to cut it. I'll put a pictorial guide together for the process at some point in the near future. winterdyne
Yep, or Minotaurs. Or anything else with a greco-roman theme going on. I will most likely do a plain shield variant of this kit before I do anything else though. Isiah
Superb sculpt and casting. Knowing how big a 1p piece is you can really appreciate the effort that's gone into the smaller details on these items. winterdyne
Thanks, glad you like them. I was particularly surprised that the half chain links on the scabbard came out so well in the cast, but I could even string the cast scabbard onto the chain those links came from. Very pleased with my caster - http://blackdragoncastings.co.uk/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/249314-spartan-viking-minotaur-equipment-kits/#findComment-3019808 Share on other sites
