Chaos: Slaanesh Beast Marine and contemptor

Hi there

Long time lurker, first time poster. Inspired by some of the examples already here, I decided to try my hand at converting and painting some chaos beastmen / marines. This is my first (almost) complete paintjob for them. I have gone for a Slaanesh colour scheme because, let's face it, the world needs more Slaanesh. I'm hoping posting here will spur me on to complete the other seven. Apologies for the low quality photos - the next batch will be better.

Crits more than welcome.

Mick

Edit: My God - a camera phone at point blank range really leaves you nowhere to hide, does it?

What Beastmen kit did you use. I saw Goatboys, Space Goats and probably other examples. I've long thought of using Pestigores or something like that even Skaven bits in my Chaos Space Marine army. The model looks fine, I'd like to see a whole squad of them. Some armed with larger guns perhaps a heavy bolter...

Looks fantastic. I particularly like the edging throughout and the texture on the shoulderpads. Out of curiosity, how do you do your edging? I'm trying to get my edging better but it's pretty slow going. I've seen people use the tip of the brush as well as the side of it at an angle to catch the edges and am always curious to see how people got the effects they did.

Wow, thanks guys. Consider me spurred.

Muskie - Praesul's right, they're the from the bestigor boxed set.

Nicko - I'm layering using the tip of a standard citadel brush. I'm just getting back into painting (haven't picked up a model since I was a teenager) so my technique's still pretty basic. It's a purple ink wash over chaos black and then going from liche purple through to warlock purple through to tentacle pink using the previous edge as a guide. Starting painting again virtually from scratch as a beginner, the two things I found really useful was 1) using ink washes regularly to 'pull' my highlights together a bit more (they're still pretty crude) and 2) using an excellent guide on wet palettes (also from this site) to keep a loose paint consistency for longer.

...I'd like to see a whole squad of them. Some armed with larger guns perhaps a heavy bolter...

Work in progress. (Sorry, still on the old phone camera.)

These are great. The combinations from Fantasy and the 40k sets have always been great and they add a different dimension to your army. It's great! I love it! I've never thought of using the Beastmen kits before.

  • 1 year later...

After a very long hiatus, I picked up this project again. I decided to do something different to kick-start my interest in it (then I dropped it again, then picked it back up!) I really loved the origional chaos dreadnought - especially the combination of organic fused to machine:

Since I figured the new contemptor models were a modern take on the origional Imperial dreadnought models, I wanted to do the same for chaos. The aim was to get that biological/mechanical fusion look that the origional had (rather than just do a contemptor with added spikes). It was a lot harder than I had planned for, and it is a bit rough and ready in some places, but I am generally happy with it and ready to slap on some paint. It's all GW kits apart from a paperclip, some chain and a guitar string.

Lastly, I'm posting this as a big thank you to all you guys who are posting chaos, conversions and especially chaos conversions on B&C. You guys got me interested in doing this again.

Absolutely amazing work brother!!!!!

The best Chaos Contemptor I've ever seen by a wide margain, and your beastmen conversions and paint are wicked-cool too :) THOSE are what traitors bathing in the eye of terror for 10K years would look like
