captain maleck
Hi all, I've recently made up a base as a draft idea for the bases of my army. It's my first attempt at snow/slush/etc. Any comments and criticisms will be very much appreciated. Cheers (By the way, if this post belongs in a different section, don't hesitate to move it. I wasn't sure which it should go into, so I put it in the one I'm used to!) http://i1100.photobucket.com/albums/g405/Edward_Horsman/Picture477.jpg
RebG
It's a little hard to tell properly from the picture there. Two things I would suggest though: Have one or two areas on the base, even if fairly small, where a little ground surface shows through. That way there's a contrast and it'll help it look more like snow When adding it to the base just watch out how you apply it -you seem to have a bit of a spine/ridge going down the middle which isn't particularly natural looking. From what is visible though the texture looks alright, they should turn out well. Regarding the which forum part, stuff like this belongs in the General Questions/WIP parts of the PCA Forum. It'll help you get more feedback too. Good luck with the rest of the bases
captain maleck
Great, thanks for the advise. I'll move this to the forum section you've suggested (once I've worked out how!!!)
seayeo
RebG is absolutely correct. 9 times out of 10 bases modeled as ground with big snow patches will look more snowy than a base covered in "identified white-ish stuff." If you want to do the total snow cover, make small snow dusted plants and rocks stick out.

One of them funnily enough is Mourn Mountain Snow. Just a suggestion in case you're interested. The texture paints are supposed to give the base of a model a textured look to it. captain maleck
Yes, I know. However, I'm a little sceptical of the textured paints. That's not to say, I won't give them a try when they come out, but I just don't feel it'll be what I'm looking for, with my bases. Cpt. M

Has a similar look to the one you have, but with larger rocks. Edit: Here are some better ones.

seayeo
Turned out very nice. Well done. I especially like how the dread looks like he's been trudging through snow.
