My Space Wolves

can you please share how you painted your space wolves??? they are amazing love the blue and grey

1. Prime black.

2. paint codex grey.

3. wash recesses with badab black (carefully, as it makes step 4 easier)

4. touch up codex grey areas to remove badab black stains from the surface area

5. Apply fortresss grey to edges. Since I have a strong brush hand, I highlight edges with smooth, crisp lines. Gives the models a cartoonish effect I really like.

6. Apply a 1:1 mix of fortress and white to very extreme edges - usually just corners and rims.

For red and yellow, I do the same thing, except

- the base colour is mechrite red/iyanden dark sun

- the wash is devlan mud

- the highlight colour is blood red/bleached bone.

As for the blue...

They look awesome brother! :D

Any chance on a quick tutorial on the glowing effects? Plasma and Runic Power?

Thanks!

I don't really have a step by step process for it, I just fiddle with it until it looks right.

The key to doing that is to realize that the light goes into what are normally shadowed areas. To that end, I use lots of blue and white paints watered down and often mixed together (the three colours i use are regal blue, ice blue, and white). Because it's watered down, it goes into the recesses and looks like light is shining on it.

For a plasma gun, you can get some pretty neat effects just by painting it blue and washing it with some really, really watery space wolves grey.

For illuminated areas, I paint something as if its un-illiuminated and then wash it with a very watered down blue paint (like, 80% water). I'll do this a few times until it looks the way I want and then I will hit it with blue highlights. The brightness of the blue depends on the closeness to the lightsource - it gets whiter the closer it is.

I realize this is kind of scary to do - as it means painting something completely and then potentially destroying it. If you have an old model you don't care for anymore, you can experiment with it.

Something new!

Chooser of the Slain! He's resting atop a vanquished Thousand Son.

I decided rather then just give my (unpainted) Njal the Raven, he can have his own base and perch and then all the Rune Priests of my army can use him.

spilled dust effect I tried worked out pretty good.

Been spending a little time building models! Put together a squad of long fans and an Iron Priest.

I primed the other four and they aren't photographing too well, so here are the two I haven't gotten to yet:

and the Iron Priest. Really pleased how he turned out. I decided to go with a light servo arm attached to a regular backpack, rather then a big heavy one I was going to use. The big one was too distracting and looked like it was breaking the back of the wolf.

Anyone else tried some of the Forge World upgrade kits? They're really cool, plus they're cheaper then trying to do a bits order on ebay. The robot limbs are neat, too.

This paint job is really hard to photograph and its driving me nuts:

It looks good to my eyeball, but when I take the picture all the colours bleed together, so he looks over-blue. played with photobuckets editing tools to sorta-kinda arrive at what it looks like to my eye. I wish I had photoshop, it'd take me like six seconds to colour correct.

Needed to take a break from furry things.

So LONG FANG SQUAD LEADER!

This model used to be custom-sculpted-something-else, but suffered tragic accident (namely, me). The original sculptor would kill me if he saw what I did to it, but I'm just happy I could salvage it and make it something I could use.

Really happy with the glowy eye.

Here's the whole mob:

With that, I'm taking a painting break. I'm sick of furry things and need a break. Happily, my whole army is only 10 models short of being completed. I will celebrate by buying a glass display case.
