Hi all,

Its been awhile since I've posted here, and after a bit of a hobby break I'm restarting my Sons of Sabbat army. So, in order to actually get the army done I'm starting up this blog which will hopefully allow me to keep motivated and get advice back to help me improve.

at the moment have or I'm working on:

10 man scout squad

10 man Assult Squad

2 x Rhinos

1 x Droppod

2 x 10 man Tactical squad

Start of a veteran squad.

Several special characters. (company Captain, Librarian etc.)

and in the near future I plan on starting:

10 Sternguard (using ForgeWorld MK III armour)

So with out further ado here is what I have so far:

Sorry for the dark images, I'll try and get better lighting for the next lot.

First, the test marine:

I'm using the same colour scheme as before, but wanted to do a test marine before jumping into painting everything. Its still not finished and obviously with the new colour will probably be slightly different.

The Company Captain:

Droppod:

I'll post the next update later when I get some photos of the start of the scout squad and some other models.

C & C welcome,

AC

Looks like a good start. Some shots in natural light would be better though, if you get the chance.

Can I ask where the captain's left shoulder pad came from? That's an interesting design.

I haven't heard of the Sons of Sabbat. They're a chapter of your own design?

Good idea, I'll try and get some shots in natural light tomorrow.

The shoulder pad came from Forge Worlds Red Scorpions Veteran pack. It was the sergeants with the scorpion logo removed.

Yep, they are a chapter of my own design. They were the first army I painted, before I fully knew about the different chapters, back when I first started and have grown on me ever since.

Small update: the Scout squad. All models will have cloaks as I think they look cooler than without. At the moment There are 3 Bolters and the Special Character (forgot his name, sorry) and then one close combat. I also plan on getting a Land Speeder Storm for them:

Sergeant Telion.

Looking good!

I intend to get him and, as I love scouts, an additional squad (probably snipers) in the future. Glad to see that his weapon is a separate piece.

How easy was it to remove the Ultramarine "U"s? I'll have to do that too.

How are you going to do the camo cloaks? Have you decided upon a scheme?

Thanks, he is a nice model. I also love the scouts and plan on adding some snipers. The only trouble with his arms being separate was that the 'pegs' were miss-shaped so I had to cut them down. I plan on pinning the arms to the body now, just got to get around to doing it.

The 'U''s were very easy to remove. They would be even easier if the model was in finecast (not sure if it has been updated yet?)

For the Camo cloaks I think plan on going for either an urban or digital camo patten. The bases are going to be Urban themed so I think either of them would be best.

For the moment I'll probably update quite regularly as I try and get everything up that has been done so far. After that updates will be slower when it settles into my normal work rate.

Update: Assault Squad 1

This will be my first 10-man assault squad. I've tried to go for dramatic poses that look like they are in the processes of attacking. So far I have 8 men for the squad. Some have yet to gain legs which I still need to get a hold of.

The Squad leader. These aren't the legs which will be used, just temp so that you get an idea of what he will look like. I also have the second power claw but its been pinned ready for painting.

Update: Test marine 1

I've finished painting the first layers of the test marine, as well as added a wash of Badab Black. I believe I might have been too heavy on the wash which has given it a shiny look. But i'd really like feedback on it, how I can improve and the next steps I should be taking.

Feedback on the painting would be greatly appreciated.

Update: Vindicator

Started to paint up my Vindicator. Almost finished painting the first layer of colours on the main tank then will be moving onto dry brushing and washing.

I think I've just about finished the Bull dozer. Its quite heavily weathered and chipped. I was going for a battered look to it as I'd say as it moves towards enemy lines it would attract enemy fire:

The tank, I just about got the base layer of colours done. Still got quite a bit of work though:

And then what it currently looks like all assembled:

Though the photos are a bit dark I think the marine looks very good. Nicely painted.

What are you planning base-wise?

The dozer-blade is really good. Nicely damaged and weathered. I particularly like the lines of automatic fire that have hit it (and the side of the vindi itself).

Thanks for the comments. I'm still having some trouble trying to take photos which aren't dark.

For the bases I'm planning on doing either an urban theme or metal floor type theme.

So far, the two test bases I have are:

test 1 - urban:

http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/jj498/aclarke283/DSCF9258.jpg

test 2 - metal:

http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/jj498/aclarke283/DSCF9253.jpg

I'm not keen on the urban test base so plan on doing a second urban test base which has more of a 'stone' look to it, but need to pick up some more codex grey, well Dawnstone in the new range, first.

It appears as though I need to find a better image hosting service as well.

You can host photos/make your own album here in B&C (at the top of the screen, to the left of `My Controls` should be `My Albums`) rather than using offsite hosts.

I think a blank ink wash would help that urban base, though in both cases a bit of...dirt...would help. Some features. Some sand (painted as debris or whatever), chopped up plasticard (or card/thick paper) painted up as scrap metal or chunks of concrete... that's just a few ideas.

Actually, in the Librarium there are lots of modelling and painting tutorials including some great ones on basing.

Stone floors

Metallic bases

Urban basing

I hope those provide some inspiration. :(
