Apothecary Vaddon
Pretty badass. Captures the Salamanders well. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/249676-nick-kymes-salamanders-hh-novel/#findComment-3024626 Share on other sites
Greyall
Vulkan's helm, I'd say. Maybe we'll finally know what befell the Salamanders after Isstvan. PS: Good to see Mr. Roberts going for the small heads on Space Marines. Hope that was intended. PS2: Can someone understand what's that big slab blocking the foremost marine's chest? A thunder hammer's head? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/249676-nick-kymes-salamanders-hh-novel/#findComment-3024632 Share on other sites
sponsra
yeah, it´s supposed to be about two Salamnders searching for Vulkan post-isstvan. But I don´t think Vulkans fate will ever be reveiled. It´s one of those "mystery-thingies". Kind of like the missing legions... A D-B
Novella. Not limited edition, as far as I know. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/249676-nick-kymes-salamanders-hh-novel/#findComment-3024643 Share on other sites
Greyall
Hmm...I personally don't think it's that secretive, more life a never-before-told tale, like the Lion's true allegiance during the Heresy (which is now being told). Actually, here's to hoping we do find out what Papa Lizard is up to. PS: The hanging men/cages in the background are pretty creepy. Olis
Interesting picture. And the Sallies having action in the HH series (besides Promethean Sun)? Good. Good. Still waiting on the White Scars, though. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/249676-nick-kymes-salamanders-hh-novel/#findComment-3024756 Share on other sites
Oiad
Some of the HH artwork has been truly impressive of late and this ain't no exception. I envy Salamander players. Hopefully the story will deliver on a similar level. wizardofnoz
Is it me or has the head of the closest Sally (right) been voodoo'd? It looks tiny.... Otherwise exceptional artwork. Tyrannicide
PS2: Can someone understand what's that big slab blocking the foremost marine's chest? A thunder hammer's head? Almost positive that it's a book. Looks like you can make out the distinctive edges of the pages. Though, the book is in quite a weird place... I really, really like the creepy background. Very grimdark looking. Kinda reminds me of the scene from 300 when the Spartans visit that burning village with the tree of dead people. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/249676-nick-kymes-salamanders-hh-novel/#findComment-3025614 Share on other sites
Wolf Priest Haelaeif
Great, now I want to start collecting Salamanders, just based on this picture. Rune Priest Ridcully
Whilst I am happy to see more salamander books, and really like the rest of the cover, something about the helmet just seems... off, perhaps too barbaric, taking the salamander theme too far yet not doing the whole way (like the wolf helmets of the space wolves.), I dunno, just the helmet spoils it for me somehow. In general, I would agree with you- I don't like the OTT dragon thing people have going for them right now- for Emperor's sake, veterans occasionally wear ceremonial drakescale loincloths, nothing more. But I digress. I am prepared to make an exception in the case of Vulkan, as I always imagine his personal armour is far more ornate Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/249676-nick-kymes-salamanders-hh-novel/#findComment-3025786 Share on other sites

Greyall
I seem to recall a Firedrake of Vulkan's inner circle of war-buddies being described as a savage, with bones, a red mohawk and warpaint, etc. I think it was in Promethean Sun. The Salamanders aren't savage per se, but they can be pretty "totemic" with the whole reptilian motiffs. And I think it suits them, it's not like they come from a Forge World. They live in Volcano Land, with dragons and Dark Elves/Eldar/Elves. I'd dress accordingly too. Plus, these were the old days of the Crusade, there was much more freedom - and, consequently, variety - to a Marine's armour decoration.
