Dark Angels Veteran Markings

Hey all!

I have two vet sergeants for my tac squads and a command squad to put the DA vets box shoulders on. Having looked through the codex they seem to have just stuck the pads from the DA vets box randomly over everything.

So far I have been placing the common sword one on the left pad and the more varied ones on the right pad, is this correct? (The model's left and right)

I am confused because the more generic chapters just have that single symbol for their vet shoulder pads.

Thanks all.

There's no real rule when it comes to DA vets... other chapters bear the crux terminatus or equivalent (a skull) , ours seems to favour personal heraldry to show vet status (IMHO).

You should go for the one you like the most, as long as it makes them stand apart from regular marines, ie, makes them look like vets :D

We dont have a set "rule". I use the molded pads on the left and grab plain ones for the right and add either a tac symbol like March10k or I've started using skull transfers off of the DA FW sheet, some of the molded ones have a laurel wreath around the sword, those make good command squad pads as well.

By using the blank pads I can use my extra pads to scatter through my line squads:

The power armoured veterans fluff is a little odd..... agreed. However, what sort of markings are command squads and veteran sergeants meant to have?

Ah, now that's a different story... I'm not 100% sold on the appropriateness of command squads, I think of banna wavas being members of tactical squads who are specially selected for the honor, and apothecaries, well, they're like techmarines, specialists who exist outside the FOC... TBH, I would consider a command squad to be an ad hoc motley crew of marines who have been temporarily assembled as a given HQ character's bodyguard and advisory council for a specific mission or campaign. Except for the APO, for every member of a command squad, I imagine that there's a squad out there that's short one marine...

As for markings, I randomly scatter veterans throughout my force anyway...generally speaking, they get a standard chapter shoulder pad (although I use 2-3 different patterns of those). It's the squad shoulder pad that I replace with something sexy... I imagine that the same would be appropriate for a command squad.

And almost none of my sergeants have squad badges...that would rob me of flexibility in changing their armament from one list to the next!

I use color coding. My Vets all have on the right pad opr somewhere else on their kit the color (Sky/Lt) Hideous Blue .

It allows me the ability to find them easily in the scrum.
