Slyfox1990
I have been a long time dabbler in 40k (7 or 8 years) with gaps. During that time I have mostly been interested in variations of the space marine theme. I have been considering getting back into modelling/painting (and perhaps some games) and was wondering where I should be starting with Deathwing. I have some 6/7 terminators already undercoated with a dheneb stone/gryphonne sepia wash which I am pleased with as a basis for getting going - I usually struggle with a basic recipe for models. I also have 5 assault and 5 normal terminators boxed for use. What I m wondering is where I might be able to go with this basis? I like the idea of bikes a lot - I've never used them in other forces and would be interested in them. Are they viable if I do play games? Not sure what other options I would have? All insight is welcome relating to terminators builds, unit builds and what generally works ? :D Many thanks, Richard Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/249729-deathwing-where-to-start/ Share on other sites
Chaplain Lucifer
I suggest taking a look at the army list section.. there you'll see the most popular builds. That said: The usual core is at least 3 terminator units with no less then 2 storm shields per squad. add a heavy weapon (usually) cyclone, the rest is at your discretion.. you can either go full TH&SS or PF&SB. With points left over a chainfist per squad. Belial can get dual claws or TH&SS, usually TH&SS and that will give you apothecary and banner upgrade to one squad. So now you have 1 HQ and 3 Troop choices. You can add bikes to outflank or aid in Deepstrike, plus some melta weapons. ou can add more Terminator squads, Land Speeder Typhoons. There are some variant builds but the base is what I mentioned. Slyfox1990
Kind of you to reply. I think I probably knew the information listed but always nice to have someone confirm your suspicions. Thanks for that. I will probably look to form the 3 squads as suggested and add some bikes to amuse myself. I already have a model for belial which I will share at some point. Pbenner
As of Early Janurary, my Deathwing was a pipe dream. I have since then full painted (2) HQs and (4) troop slots including heavy weapons and Apothecary/Banner. Deathwing is a very easy army to paint to "looks good on the table" quality. I will get some pictures of my army up sometime today to show off, but I essentially brush painted everything, and while they are not perfect, they are also better looking than 95% of the armies around here. I started with my HQ units as my first paint jobs. This gave me time to experience some of the specialness of Deathwing before I sat down to do it assembly line style. I presently have (18) more Terminators to build for my Deathwing, plus a Librarian in TDA that is a custom job. All in all, the army was alot of fun to paint and I'm not done yet. march10k
better looking than 95% of the armies around here. You overachiever, you! LOL...that 95% bit is pretty funny, given that 80% of the armies out there are either bare plastic, primer only, or barely meets the three color minimum... That said, I'm sure I'd rather see your models on the tabletop than 99% of the armies out there ;) 95% for the reason you mentioned, and then carried the rest of the way on the strength of being first company, first legion! Grotsmasha
I would suggest jumping on eBay and grabbing an AoBR Termi squad and using the extra set of weapons in the Assault Termi box.
