travisb7
Hello all, I have a large quantity of small round bases. They serve their purpose, allowing me to build many different scratch built models for various armies, including Marines. However, I'm sitting on about a dozen terminators without bases. I know I can buy them at around a buck a piece for standard, but I'd like to spend less on the plastic circles and more on models/paints/etc. I know ebay is useful, but the larger lots of these bases are usually shipped from Asia, and I'd rather not wait a month to get them (I'm moving most likely in a few weeks,). What do YOU do when you need those extra bases, and fast? BTW, I have purchased overseas bases before. I have 20 bike bases that all came for under $10. Just looking for domestic or DIY alternatives. Thanks! travis Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/249802-bases-bases-everywhere-but-they-all-are-too-darn-small/ Share on other sites
Jacinda
This might not be much use right now, but I have made a lot of rubber molds for different bases over the years. Maybe 50 or 60 bases in several different sets over all. Now I just cast up whatever I need and only use the plastic bases for painting. After the initial cost of RTV mold material, casting bases costs about 10 to 15 cents each in resin. Hanska
As Jacinda said but if you don't need the rtv for anything else try instant mold instead. Rtv silicone usually comes in larger packs and does have a limited shelf life. JaM_TW
There you go: Impact! miniatures They are slightly thinner, but if you want to fill the base a bit with, say, GS to make cobblestones or what have you, it should come out okay.
