AP2
Hi, Its been a while since i posted here, and i was a templar player then. Switched to Space Wolves a while back and have been slowly building my force (pics to follow) The plan is to build a 1500 list for a tournament at my office later in the year (and i manage these guys so losing is not an option:) and to flesh it out with about another 500-1000 points of troops to play against friends with (eldar, dark eldar, nurgle, necrons and other wolves mainly) So far i have: 2 converted Rune priests 3 Wolf Guard in power armour 4 squads of 5 grey hunters, 2 with melta and 1 with a plasma gun 3 squads of 5 long fangs with 4 missile launchers in each having got the majority painted up (i planned to get the rank and file done before the good stuff) I am going to buy some more.... But what? I had planned to get a few razorbacks and run small squads but i want a more rounded force than the razorback spam type list Also i have ordered some bits to convert a wolf scout unit. So far in games they have been solid if a little unspectacular, any advice would be gratefully recieved. Possibly a land raider and a few special charcaters ( i like Njal, Arjac and Ragnar personally). The razor backs are a good idea too, i tend to buy them for my long fangs so that in dawn of war they can actually claim some terrain. in non DOW i just deploy them empty with GH's behind and jump in first turn. Twin linked las is the way to. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/249870-back-in-grey/#findComment-3027852 Share on other sites

hendrik
Beating the boss is great for team morale :) that's what horus said! as for the OP: welcome to the fang, have a look in the army list section for ideas of 1500pts lists that you might find interesting Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/249870-back-in-grey/#findComment-3028051 Share on other sites
AP2
Well, The reason losing to my guys is not an option is that I would never, ever hear the end of it.. :) I am sure they would love to win, and I suspect a meta list or 2 may appear (one of my guys worked for GW at one point so is likely to be beardy). Because of this I am not going with the 'win at all costs' approach'. Anyway, I have looked about at other lists. I have added 5 wolf scouts and a WG to my plan and i think some thunderwolf cavalry (just returned with the box so they are in) Is it worth kitting out the cavalry riders or are they good enough without gear? - I plan to use them as a kind of mobile reserve (like Rommel's Panzers) What is the consensus on Lone Wolves? I am going to make one in Terminator armour, with a couple of the new wolves, just as a little project. As Maximus said, Razorbacks for the Long Fangs would make a lot of sense too. Also I might bulk out one of the grey hunter packs and give it a rhino... Any thoughts welcome, Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/249870-back-in-grey/#findComment-3029085 Share on other sites
Rune_Priest_Rhapsody
Thunderwolf Cavalry work best when you kit them out for wound allocation. I would recommend at least one storm shield, and a thunder hammer or power fist in the pack. Just keep them all equipped differently. I have been messing about with Lone Wolves recently, to little satisfaction. I was running one in power armor with th/ss and 2 fw who would jump in one of my LF packs empty razorbacks and shoot for the enemy line. The transport almost always got blown up and the LW killed to death before he arrived. And on the couple of occasions he did make it into cc his I1 (due to the hammer) had him dieing to death before he could swing. The TDALW is a bit more survivable due to his 2+/3+ (give him a Chain fist and a Storm Shield), but cannot ride in transports, unless you want to empty out a hugely expensive LR just to cart him around in it... Razorback's don't have fire points on them, so you can't pop out your RP and shoot out of them. If you are indeed running 2 RP, put them into rhino's with as many GH's as you can fit (a WG is good in there too) give one Mark of the Wulfen and another a Standard and a melta/plasma (which ever you prefer. Melta is more popular) and then you basically have a Rhino that spits out Living Lightning or JaWWs every turn. I give 2 GH pack's RB's and 2 of them Rhinos, then I give both of my LF's RB's as well. You get a lot more shooting for a decent amount of points. Wulfebane
TWC don't need to be kitted to the gills with gear, but wound allocation ia near manditory. This weekend in a 750pt match, I took 3 twc (1 wc, 1 MB) and had them survive against 6 nobz, a 5 assault marines, and a 30-strong horde of boys before finally dying to the boys. I love them...
