Worst Battle Report Ever! spoilers

Recommended Posts

Those who get your White Dwarf in the next couple of days will read a 1000 point battle report between Tyranids and Space Wolves.

An exciting battle? Well it had the potential to be, but the Wolves ran what must be the worst list I've ever seen from the marines in grey.

A Wolf Lord on thunderwolf? Well it's a lot for 1000 points but I suppose it could work. What saga is he running? Saga of the Bear that would help when your opponent has the Swarmlord? No. Saga of the Wolfkin. Well it boosts wolves so how many wolves are there in his list? Two. That's right. Two.

5 Wolf Guard in a drop pod tooled for close combat... against an army that specializes in close combat... right!

5 Wolf Scouts, plasma plasma and plasma... I guess you'll be getting close to those Tyranids then?

5 Grey Hunters, one of the best troops in the game and you take 5? What are you trying to do? Lose?

10 Blood Claws. Read that again. 10 Blood Claws. That's not a typo. He took 10 Blood Claws and what's more he gives them... wait for it... a plasma gun... and a plasma pistol. Because giving a BS3 unit shooting weapons is the best thing to do with them isn't it?

Finally, he took 3 thunderwolves... well it is the toughest melee unit in our book... I suppose set up for combat they might be useful... oh... what are they carrying? A storm shield and... what's that? A plasma pistol?

Where are the Long Fangs? Where are the Grey Hunters in Rhinos? Where's the Rune Priest dropping Tyranids down holes?

The Tyranid list by comparison was not too bad.

Needless to say, the Space Wolves lost. They couldn't have done anything else.

I think you are losing the point in this poor excuse of a battle rep. They have effectively tried to show that you can build an army using the battle force box and adding another couple of units and nothing else. We all know how to smash face but that go's against GWs "in the spirit of the game".

If you were looking for a stratigic face off with all the killer combos that a codex can offer then you are buying the wrong magazine and always have been.

On the plus side we did get a bunch of new battle missions.

They should have taken engir krakendoom.. then it would have been face roll. However, like Dewi said .. they wanted to get people interested in the battleforce and the new minis. Sadly, it ended up being more in tyranid favour :tu:

I used to buy white dwarf religiously, however, with the advent of forums and other websites, I stopped due to finding out the information for free and before it was in the white dwarf, which is just a big advert for gw models (surprising that isn't it...).

They have admitted that they replay battle reports so that the currently released army wins. The list's they take are rather fun and fluffy, and occasionally you will get some decent lists fighting (at least you used to).

If you want some decent battle reports, look no further then the Liber Victorum on this great forum :tu:

As one of the unfortunate idiots that still buys WD every month, I can attest to the fact that the guys a GW make the WORST list's evar!!

It is obvious that they use certain kits when making the lists, but that doesn't excuse the atrocious list's the decide to Bat Rep with!! I haven't seen this new one yet, but I'm sure I'll laugh at both list's, read the article, and make mental notes on what not to do. EVER!!

End of Line

remember that WD isn't about the game its about the sales. the wolf list used the kits that just came out: Thunder lord, Thunder wolves, a few fen. wolves. no doubt the nid list had a tervigon tyranofex and a flyuing tyrant or something, right? I have yet to see a bat rep in WD that didn't look completly falsified. If you want bat reps go to BoLS. they atleast try.

People at gw/wd dont make winning armielist (yes you can use their tactical ideas as toiletpaper, just because they have written them down), they make fluffy armie lists. So in regards to that they scored a 100 out of 100 points.

That Wolf list is a fluffy as a bald head.

As for selling stuff to us...I was interested in the new paints. But, after seeing the pics of them used...I'm worried. Painted by a 5 year old would be fair enough but these examples are pants. And don't get me started on the transfer sheets.

The reason that TWL had saga of the wolfkin was becausethey were using the Harold Deathwolf load out proposed in the WD that came with the TWC release. The rest of the army may have been intended to follow the fluff of a more combat oriented bend.

At least there might be more people buying Tyranids because, you know, Tyranids must be good because they beat one of the big three in 40k.

I would take drop pods if you could use them like orbital strikes. Aim them at the biggest enemy unit and detonate on impact.

I agree about the use of their tactical ideas as toilet paper, I've used the bathrooms at the HQ and the toilet paper is indeed scratchy :D What I disagree with though is that idea that their armies are fluffy, they're not, they're simply kit based, rather than story based and in that regard they score 100%!

I think the problem started long before the battle report, it started when they gave us only plasma in our wolf kits.

Plasma, seriously? No flamers? No meltas, just 3 plasmaguns and 4/8 pistols per spree.

Furious wasn't the correct word. I almost painted my marines yellow and red with unhappy faces on them.

As for fluffy. Eh, fluff does not mean taking 1 of every unit or willingly betraying their function (plasma gun on blood claws... I would have rather sent them completely bare and make them earn the weapon!) But I guess upon meeting those very narrow pramiters (using a kit that is flawed in plasma usage, having to field blood claws, and having the balls to run a Wolf Lord) I guess it is a success.

Erg quoting my own post but...

They also have to bear in mind what the studio has painted up, so if the Eavy Metal folks have only painted 10 Blood Claws and only 5 Grey Hunters...
