Question about counts-as weapons

Recommended Posts

I plan on starting a Minotaurs army soon and want to model my Assault Squad to fit in with the Greek theme, and to this end I want to give them Angelus Boltguns from the Sanguinary Guard kit and give them all gladiuses from the High Elf range in place on chainswords. Note that the non-power weapons would be painted in a normal metal style, while power weapons would have blue power weapon effects on them to differentiate between the counts-as chainswords and the actual power swords. So my question is, would you be happy to play against this unit or should I model the squad with the standard bolt pistols and chainswords?

I would have no problem at all. For the most part a CCW is a CCW whether it is a knife, chainsword or Wert's wooden leg so using a short sword is a non-issue. With the traditional blue color for the power weapons I don't think I would even cross my mind that they would be anything but a power weapon. So yes, I would be happy to play against that army.

On both counts I would have no problem at all so long as things are uniform across the army (as you said: non-powered weapons as normal metal and powered-weapons with clear effects). As for the 'pistols': Grey Knights and Sanguinary Guard are usually the only marines with wrist-mounted weapons (barring ICs), right? Since you're army is (visually and literally) neither of those, I wouldn't have a problem.

Bear in mind the above is all "I wouldn't have a problem". I can't say the same for a game at a GW store or in a tournament.
