BFG Space Marines - Project Log

My local gaming club seems to be suffering a resurgence of interest in BFG, so I thought I'd join in. I'd tried to make some Tyranid ships the last time this happened, and while they came out quite well, i could never design a Hive Ship I was happy with. This time, I thought I'd go with Space Marines. Problem is, the only ship I actually like the look of is the Forgeworld Grey Knights Strike Cruiser, so it looks like I'll be scratch building a fair amount of my fleet!

To get me started, I bought a couple of the GK Strike Cruisers. They give me a solid core to the fleet, and a darn good idea of scale.

Next up is the start of my Battle Barge (currently without name), which will aim for a design which is a cross between the GK and the normal SM ships. Yes, it is rather huge (the picture is exactly the same scale as the Strike Cruiser above), but I thought it was a bit unfair that the normal Battle Barge is barely bigger than an IN cruiser.

Unfortunately, I don't really have all the bits I need, so I've ordered a load of plasticard rods and tubes, as well as a couple of Imperial Navy cruisers so that I can loot some of the weapons, and make the rest in to Inquisitorial Black Ships. While I wait for them to arrive, I got sucked in to constructing a 3D mock-up of what I want the Battle Barge to look like, as seen below.

So, this is to be my log of progress. Let's see if I run out of steam as quickly as most of my other projects!

I also ended up planning out my generic escorts. The first one will be either a Nova class frigate or a Gladuis class frigate (though I much prefer the Nova), depending on whether there are any lances under the front wings.

This one would be a Hunter class Destroyer. I'm still not entirely sold on the prow, but I'm not doing too well on alternatives at the moment.
