Battlefleet Adepticon

I'm playing with various ideas for Adepticon this year for the Battlefleet Gothic Championships. I'm going to use my Ultramarines, simply because I like them the most. Plus, with the latest addition of the 2010 Compedium and FAQ, they got some major buffing that can cause my opponents problems. Here are my three themes: Top Heavy, Middle Class, Balanced

Top Heavy

[475] Battle Barge - Master of the Fleet

[450] Seditio Opprimere

[305] 2 Strike Cruisers - 1 extra shield

[270] 6 Gladius Frigates

Middle Class

[500] Seditio Opprimere - Master of the Fleet

[480] 3 Strike Cruisers - all extra shield

[480] 3 Strike Cruisers - all extra shield, all extra bombardment cannon

Balanced (What I've usually taken)

[475] Battle Barge - Master of the Fleet, 2 rerolls

[580] 4 Strike Cruisers

[270] 6 Gladius Frigates

[120] 3 Sword Frigates

The top heavy list is rather obvious: two crushing battle barges will lumber forward, throwing out decently large amounts of firepower. The problem is that I can get easily out-maneuvered, as the cruisers and frigates just don't have that much damage output or staying power. This list is more of a fun list with a double-battleship death star.

The middle class list is what I most leaning towards. It's new, as I only recently ordered the extra strike cruisers and battlebarge to convert to the Seditio Opprimere. This seems to be both the most resilient list and also the one with the most punishing firepower, since I swapped out the launch bays of three strike cruisers with more bombardment cannons. Squadroned up, this can give me an impressive 24 to the front that hits on 4's and causes critical hits on a 4+...it's really designed to bludgeon its way through something. The question in the end is how to squadron the SC; all 6 together, or 3 and 3 split like how I listed above?

The balanced list is the one I've been using for years, and is unchanged from the first and second year I played there. It has netted me 5 wins of 6 games, but never got close to the Best Admiral because the wins weren't big enough, nor does it take advantage of the great boosts the Space Marine fleet got.

Which one would you choose? Like I said, I'm leaning toward the middle class list because it seems to be tough and strong, even though it lacks the weight of thunderhawks that the other lists can sport.

It seems like you want to play the middle list, so that would be my advice.

I find I always play best using the units or lists that I'm excited about compared to the ones that might perform better on paper.

As for the split, I think two 3x squadrons would be the best, as it gives you the best balance between durability/firepower and being able to cover a variety of targets.

That said, I'm hardly a BFG expert :D

Haha, nice. Na, my two battle barges are the Emperor Incarnatus and Seditio Opprimere, names pulled from the Ultramarines fleet list.

I may play a game at some point after this is done and nickname them Thunder and Lightning for such a game though ^_^.

Then of course, after I get this all done I'll have to take pictures...yes, delicious pictures.

Got my ships in last night and production has begun in earnest!

I didn't want the wimpy little Imperial turrets for my broadsides, oh no. These are BATTLESHIP guns, and so needed to be appropriately modeled :). I scavenged eight turrets from my Chaos fleet, the big flat ones that look like current battleship deck guns, with the three barrels. They'll suit me just fine.

The fleet is ready!

My version of the Seditio Opprimere; I really like how it turned out.

The Strike Cruisers. They've all been named and are classy to the max. The Forgeworld decal sheet has proven most useful, with chapter symbols that fit perfectly, as well as numerals for the ship numbers. Sure I covered up my free-hand chapter symbols, oh no all that hard work...meh! :P This looks TONS better.

...and the rest of the fleet!
