Hey Guys!

You guys have been great help so far!, with every topic ive posted ive received great help!, so i was wondering if you guys could help structure my current army.

In my old army i collected Orks so ive always fielding a body count army and i think my space wolves army is going the same way!

I really have no idea weather i should go for more AV units or what to prioritise, so here's my current list

Njal the Stormcaller

1 Wolf lord on thunderwolf

5 Terminators. 1 chainfist and SS, 1 thunderhammer and SS, 2 with 2 wolf claws, 1 assault cannon and power weapon

9 grey hunters with wolf guard. 2 plasma guns

9 grey hunters with wolf guard. 2 plasma guns

9 grey hunters with wolf guard 2 plasma guns

5 scouts

3 thunderwolf cavalry

6 long fangs; missile launcher, 2 heavy bolters, 2 lascannons, standard pack leader

1 drop pod

I mostly play against Guard, and tau. but occasionally necrons and eldar. im lacking structure in my army and i dont know where to turn!

any advice is greatly appreciated!

you cant have 2 plasma guns in 9 man GH squads the wolf guard don't count towards the total you need 10 GH you can have a combiweapon on the WG if you want.

I would add more ranged firepower to your list

extra long fangs squads or predators and Land speeders for mobile firepower

You should get Some transports for each of your squads

add some Wolf standards they are really worth their points

maybe consider smaller squad sizes 7-8 or you could split one squad in two and mount both in razorbacks these can then work as objective sitters while your larger squads work as objective takers

after reading the codex it just states that if the unit models 10 models then it can have a second weapon as listed above. i have only gave my "wolf guard" a powerfist as the difference, so couldnt i just count it as another grey hunter?

Hello Captain Laavain,

If I would make a suggestion:

keep your GH units small (7GH+1WG), in my experience its much easier to maneuver over the field (to cover or not in the way of other units).

I know the extra plasmagun is tempting but this makes your units a little cheaper so you van have more treats to your shooting enemy.

Maybe add a wolfguard to your scout unit this makes it more of a treat especially against guard and tau they can be really devastating

Personally I would drop the terminators in the drop pod and put GH with a wolfguard in them.

I would change the heavybolters on the longfangs for anti armour (missile launchers) and find points to put a second longfang unit in.

The guardsmen and tau need to keep there heads down while your GH come closer for the kill.

tip 1: make use of the rule of two. (most players don't have the discipline to concentrate fire and shoot on both units increasing your units survival chance by 50%)

tip 2: don't take armour if most of the army isn't (guess where all the anti-armour weapons will fire at. (excluded drop pods))

Thanks for the help man!, i kept my heavy bolters in the long fang unit because i already had 2 - 3 anti tank shots in there, and i wanted a threat against infantry, making the most of the split firing rule i can perhaps thin out 2 units insteady of the 1... and it annoys me how the only come with 1 missile launcher -.-

Is there a way you can get to more missile launchers?

The split fire option is really handy but I don't use it a lot.

Like I said about the focus firing, I don't like to split fire but use all my firepower to destroy the treat.

It's better to have a overkill then bad dice rolls and the target is hardly scratched.

Laavain, I'm a fairly new wolf-player myself, and I've learned a few things in my escalation league. I hope this helps, but I might just end up revealing my own ignorance.

If you are wanting to prioritize your army, you have to decide what you want your army to do. Do you want a well balanced army? A very aggressive army? A very defensive army? Once you've decided, you'll be able to prioritize. You have a troop and infantry heavy list, and thus far it's fairly well-balanced, so I'm going to assume that you've gone with that direction (it's also the same direction that I've taken).

My priorities are these:

1. Troops win me games. I get lots of Grey Hunters, but make sure they are mobile and protected with TRANSPORTS. You need some. You also need to put Njal in a transport, as he is most effective mid-field. Have you thought of taking two Rune Priests instead of Njal? Just a thought.

Personal thought: Drop Pods are great for objectives as well as getting behind the enemy. It helps me to dictate their shooting lanes and their movement much easier, and I'm beginning to favor them more and more.

Additionally, decide where the main strength of your force is going to lie. If it is in troop, then gear the rest of your army to support your troops and help them out in their jobs (whether that is killing other units in annihilation or in taking objectives). If it is your Elites slot (with Wolf Guard, etc) then you need to re-prioritize your list.

2. My Heavy Support has changed the tide of the game more than I can count, and function really well with a lot of Grey Hunters. Like everyone is saying, a second Long Fang squad is a must. If you can't find the points, make the points, whether it's at the expense of your troops or your elite choices.

3. Elite choices are the most competitive slot for our army. I will always try to find a way to field 3 elites. For this, though, your personal preference and gameplay is the biggest key factor. Play around with all the elite choices and simply pick your favorites.

Personal Thought: I've gone heavily with scouts and Wolf Guard, much like you have. They fit my style of play extremely well, and Scouts provide one of the best psychological advantages in the game. "What!? You're coming in on MY table edge?!" I'll max out my Wolf Guard with Terminators and Pack Leaders, but only insomuch as they support my main body, that is, my troops. If they don't support or provide a key role, THEY ARE NOT WORTH THE POINTS AND NOT A PRIORITY

4. This means Fast Attack comes down to you rounding out your army. I personally think you've made the right decision going with TWC (And fielding a Mounted Wolf Lord no less!) The biggest decision you face is whether you want to keep 4 in that squad, or drop it down to 3. To echo what I said above, this simply depends on how you want to use them. Looking over your list, you prefer infantry, but lack anti-armor. The "Fast" slot is a good way to round this out with Landspeeders or TWC.

Three anti-armor shots isn't enough for an entire army's ranged support, especially since your troops lack transport (rectify this!) forcing them to footslog to the enemy, getting shot to bits by heavily range-oriented armies such as IG, Tau, Necrons and to a lesser extent Eldar ( I've found Eldar armies w/ Reaper exarchs to be brutal).

Again, get armor. Transports and speeders are your best options. Since 4th edition, mech has nearly become manditory.
