Loyal Death Guard

Recommended Posts

Hitting my collection of unfinished troops pretty hard recently. I got a element of about 65 that just need detailed out and decaled up.

Reasons I went with Death Guard is the relation to a solid light infantry unit. Mortarion trained them to be flexible for any environment as well as allowed them to arm up with whatever he felt they needed for the engagment at hand. For my guys Motarion isnt in the picture anymore and without the Legion to fight a war of attrition they have adopted more of our modern regiment set up.

In keeping with their preference I have shaved off most of the icons ect to keep them as simple and plain as possible except leadership, heroes, ect. Anyway a couple pics from the phone before I go crazy on pics. Ideas and critism is great but I think I may be at my limit of painting ability which I would guess at average.

More to follow...

Dheneb stone, lots of layers of that. Goes on alot smoother watered down, covers and shows better as well. It looks a little different than the stark white but ill tie it into some fluff once I get a good number going and figure out their direction.

Work has been a disaster so getting pics up has been slow. I will get those rocking this week though.

After toying with the hobby for the better part of a decade I finally got a serious start to a large force. During that time ive been playing with a ton of different ways to paint them, it seemed to work the best with my skill level of marginal lol. My concern now with the start of 70 troops and three rigs is if the new paints have something that looks correct with what ive already started or if I need to break them down into units now based on a new shade of base color. UGH

Anyway, I guess Im way behind ill get a couple pics up here hopefully tonight.

Alrighty here we go, took em with my phone so quility is kinda lame.

So here is my plan for these bad boys, let me know what you think.

Current M41 timeframe loyal Death Guard troops. they belong to the organization that their commader help put into place. They continue to carry their colors out of pride for what the legion was, and lets be honest, there isnt a chance battle field confusion being that their brothers are now unreconizable from the taint of Nurgle.

regardless of their loyalties they are unable to serve with, support, or entertain contact with other loyal Astartes for obvious reasons

The normal rank and file Death Guard are fielded in support of the overall mission. Being that that can vary wildly from a squad to assist a kill team to a full blown company plus. The support element will be made up of what your find in a normal chpater anywhere else.

Kill teams made up of a mix of Deathwatch and Knights will sport Death Guard colors since they are required to be pulled from the same pool of the orginaztion everyone else is.

My chapter master will be a Inquisitor with honor guard who also grew up through the same ranks.

Probly could use some polishing up but its a start for me.

The begining stages of my Inquisitor/Chapter Master. He came out kinda blurry but I think you get the overall idea

My Captain and Commander of the kill team and operations group

Finally the Captain and Commander of support group, he still needs a little work.

The Inquisitor does not feel like it fits with the rest of your army. Death Guard also didn't use a lot of decoration and such on their armor which also singles that model out as out of place. The rest is great! Keep it up.

Thanks Mordent, he is definalty still a work in progress. I plan to take out as much as I can without having to do any GS or at least an little as possible. Once I get rocking on pics of the troops youll see ive shaved off alot of the chest plate crap, putiry seals, and anything I dont feel is required from the rank and file guys. Ill have to keep some, cant have my I leader without some sort of bling to compete with his rivals.

Here is where I was at a month ago.

They look great. May i suggest maybe adding a purity seal(oath of moment) here and there on their armor to add a little more color to your models. I cant help but think having a red purity seal would make your white and greens pop out even more. If not then you will have to make sure to make a nicely contrasting base color to do that. This is starting to look like the beginnings of a very pimp Deathguard army.

Very nice work!

The colours are great and the armour's appropriately plain. As Mordent Hex says, a few red purity seals would pop nicely.

Are the bases finished or will you be doing more work on them?

Appriciate the input on the Oaths. Looking though all my prepped models it would appear I have sanded and cut off every single purity seal along with anything else the looked like something they wouldnt have. I do have a bag of them in my bitz box though so I figured id give it a shot on a model I am unable to removed it from without me having to fight with my grey stuff. (I may do a decent job but I dont trust myself quite yet)

So here is what it looks like with one sprinkled in.

http://i1209.photobucket.com/albums/cc381/Death_Guard_Trooper/Death%20Guard/DeathGuardTermiside.jpg

It was a nice break to work on something different, right now I am in the middle of my scouts. I plan to have about 30 or so Termies in keeping with the Death Guard's tendency to have a high number of suits in the mix.

I think I am done with the bases. I havent sealed any of my models yet in case I wanted to add squad markings ect later on. At this point as I go I seemed to be getting better and go back over my old ones with something thats working or looking better. Thanks!

I like it! It adds a nice bit of colour.

Are you sure you wouldn't like to do a bit more work on the bases? A pick bit of paint, a wash and dry brush and they'd look fine. A good way to contrast with the armour too.

I may give it a shot, Ill probly wait till I got a company sized element done though before I give it a go. I checked yours out to see abotu ideas, I like the speeder with a snake!

I got my alpha team done for my scout section. I think Ill add a few squads of scouts by the end of the whole deal. Getting destroyed in the field if I ever took my kelar off Im reluctant to let many of my troops have the same luxery. I think they look better with the protection as well as the augmenting systems the helmet allows them, escpecially as a recon element.

If thats what your looking for its all in one package from FW, CADIAN INFANTRY SQUAD WITH RESPIRATORS UPGRADE PACK. Has the sealed helmets, rucks, and Sgt cap. They look slicker than my crappy camera makes them look. Totally worth it. It also had binos and a heavy ammo pouch that went well with the scouts too, the Heavy bolter has it as his butt pack.

Im very happy with how they turned out. I would have liked to shave some off and make them even more plain but if over due it I have zero extras to replace them with.

got the other team on the way soon. I picked up some of the new paints so I had to give them a shot. My plan is to go mostly Death Guard of course for tactical troops and support. for my assault section though I was thinking more...

Heh, awesome! To bad FL is a ways away from ID. Going back through yours defiantly look familiar, though I'm not at that level of detail myself yet, or ever. I just got moved into the new place here so should be up and back running in a few days. I also took the time and money ;) ($400) into what I think to complete my core army. I want to hold the Eaters down to just 30 or so and continue to keep My Death Guard at a few companies. Maybe a squad of Alpha Legion for an Intel slice as spec ops, which will turn into me buying some guard troops for them. God this is never ending isn't it?

Anyway, your squads look to me like a nice even mix of armor mk. I just got 20 of the MK IV assault armor to use without the sleek jumpacks and I have a full 10 man already of the iron armor. With those guys ill defiantly have a special character to lead them. Garro will defiantly have to be in the works, although he will be one of my last since I want him to look the best. And of course a Mortorain even though he is a traitorous douche canoe, he still rocks regardless of how much sense it makes with my army. I got a Enkomi from FW for this purpose, lets see what I can do with him, he would look badass with a scythe I think.

....and a Stormtalion once they come out, or two. Need something to escort Raven around. Ugly or rediclous or not.
