Trying to Arm Terminators

Okay, I will be getting a box of Terminators soon as payment for painting some Necrons for my friend, and have been mulling over the different options I could do with them. At the moment I do have an Arjac that I can throw in, but with his cost I do not think I can work him in easily. My first thought is for something like this:

5 TDA Wolf Guard

5 Storm Bolters

3 Power Weapons

2 Chain Fists

1 Cyclone Missile Launcher

I figure that if I have points I can upgrade the Power Weapons to Frost Blades, and if I need to drop points use the Chain Fists as Power Fists. The only issue I have at this moment is the lack of transportation, only having 1 Rhino that I can swap out for a Razorback if I need an extra gun. From people with more experiance with Terminators, is that a viable loadout? And if not, what would be a better one?

First off I would recommend you magnetize the arms so that you can switch the pack around to fill different needs in your different lists.

I like the fact that both combi weapons and wolf claws cost only 5 points. I think 2 CF is overdoing it myself, but if that's what you like. If your planning on popping vehicles look to the a fore mentioned combi weapons as a possible cheaper option.

End of Line

Use a drill bit that is the same size as the magnets (i'll check mine later and post the measurements), super glue (i use Zap a Gap) and the arms you want to be able to switch out. Be mindful of magnetic polarity when doing this, as it sucks to get the magnets sunk backwards. If you are careful and set them all the same way you can switch out any arm to accommodate any list.

...or you can do it like I did, and not pay any attention to all of what I just said and end up with 25+ WGTDA models all with magnetized arms and each with a possible 'upgrade' limb.

aye my housemate is currently in the middle of magnetising his entire deathwing army.

Id say magnetising wolf guard is an even better idea due to the high level of wargear options they get (i defintely wish id done it with mine! i know have a guy with an assualt cannon, who looks awesome, but rarely gets used)

Magnetising is a tad fiddly at first, but once you get the hang (like everything else) its a fairly easy process.

I am indeed using rare earth 1/8" magnets and an accompanying drill of that size. I found using a hand drill, or pin vise works the best. You get better control from it over a possible heavy clunky electric drill.

This is my "all-comers" pack kit for my Logan Wing:

-TDA/SB/PW/CML

-TDA/SS/WC

-TDA/C-M/WC

-TDA/C-P/WC

-TDA/SB/PF

End of Line

On topic of magnetising... I'd recommend buying the Army Painter 'drill' rather than the Citadel one. The Citadel one comes with six 1mm drill-bit (which in my experience snap pretty easily), whereas the Army Painter one comes with five different-sized bits and a spare (reversible) collet. The Army Painter 'drill' is also cheaper, though only marginally.

As for magnets, I'd recommend 2x2mm (the AP 'drill' comes with a 2mm bit). They're strong enough to hold a Dreadnought on a Stormraven and you can get 50 for about £3/$5 US (free shipping) on Ebay. They're probably too big for wrists though.

Magnetising seems daunting at first but once you have the proper tools and actually get cracking on it, its really easy.
