PupLord
Cheers friends! After reading quite a few Horus Heresy novels I wanted to finally start a 40k army, but it was really after digesting A Thousand Sons, Prospero Burns and (not of the Heresy series anymore) Battle of the Fang that I couldn't stay away from the Sons of Fenris any longer.I started collecting the miniatures I liked. I started testing their feel and playstyle and finally found the one that I think suits me best. I wanted "MSU", mobility, speed and a "coolness" factor to my list. I also noticed that none of the Great Companies mentioned in the fluff really featured the elements I wanted to include in the list, so I decided to go with the one that has the coolest chapter insignia: Krom Dragongaze's Great Company. The fluff states that Krom himself is a big, strong Wolf Lord, who appreciates personal valour and battle prowess above all else and therefore his company contains many Wolf Guards. This got me thinking that this Great Company could, in fact, accomodate my playstyle (with the help of a little creativity ).My interpretation of Krom is a Wolf Lord who wants his whelps to prove their worth from the start, he doesn't care about losses (natural selection and all that) but is also experienced enough to know that a solid battle line is where a strike force succeeds or fails. That's why all Blood Claws are given a choice: a bike or a jump pack. Only after proving themselves in the heat of battle a thousand times over (gaining required patience and self control in the process) are they elevated to either Grey Hunter infantry packs or the pilots for the Company's Land Speeders. My list basically runs around Rhino mounted packs of Grey Hunters supported by a long range fire element(s), scouts and fast, mobile support elements (Swiftclaw bikers, Skyclaw packs and Land Speeders). With the rather long intro done with, I thought I'd show my painting progress so far. Hopefully this will turn into a blog eventually... These guys are finished except for the weathering on the rhino (mud, dust and chipped paint still to be added). As you can see I can't even fill my minimum force organization chart reuirement yet but I am getting there... One day. I hope you like them.Cheers, Puphttp://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j224/schwartzland/Space%20Wolves/2012_Android066.jpghttp://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j224/schwartzland/Space%20Wolves/2012_Android068.jpghttp://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j224/schwartzland/Space%20Wolves/2012_Android071.jpghttp://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j224/schwartzland/Space%20Wolves/2012_Android073.jpghttp://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j224/schwartzland/Space%20Wolves/2012_Android074.jpghttp://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j224/schwartzland/Space%20Wolves/2012_Android075.jpghttp://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j224/schwartzland/Space%20Wolves/2012_Android076.jpghttp://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j224/schwartzland/Space%20Wolves/2012_Android078.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/250418-krom-dragongazes-great-company-update-26oct2014/ Share on other sites
Dewi Sant
Fantastic work. Nice crisp clean paint job on all of your minis! Love the interior of the rhino. Kassill
Your painting is very good, I really like the scouts, but one thing though, why are the Stormbolter grips not attached to the stormbolter on the rhino? :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/250418-krom-dragongazes-great-company-update-26oct2014/#findComment-3035870 Share on other sites
Skarvald the Troll-faced
I love the crispness and just the overall look of your Rune Priest. The eye is just an amazing detail! And the welcome (and I love ale :) )... I don't really understand the question, but if you are referring to the "handles" that the gunner holds in his hands then the answer is simple: oops. I wanted the SBolter to be able to tilt up and down, but then I glued the arms to the gunner. I decided liked the "tilted down" look best only AFTER the gluing was ready and done with... So: oops. -Pup Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/250418-krom-dragongazes-great-company-update-26oct2014/#findComment-3035974 Share on other sites

truesonofruss
Amazing painting... I myself paint only to play so I could only dream of modeling and painting as nice as you have accomplished here. Well done sir and welcome to the Fang. Matt D
love the look of these guys. the only things i can think to point out are the SB (already addressed) and that your rune priest has krom's symbol instead of "the wolf that stalks the stars" denoting that he is part of the great wolfs company...looks great though. Indeed. I want my entire company to have the same symbols so (again) stretching the official fluff a little seemed acceptable to me. The rune priest will eventually be accompanied by two wolf priests and possibly one iron priest and yes, they will all be part of Krom's Company and will wear his insignia. I see them being closely honor tied to the Wolf Lord from campaigns in the past and acting presently as Krom's advisors IN the Great Company. @Marshal Wilhelm: YIKES. Good call! I had honestly missed it. Darn it. I guess I'll leave it be for the time being - I have an entire Great Company to finish first. :tu: -Pup Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/250418-krom-dragongazes-great-company-update-26oct2014/#findComment-3036262 Share on other sites
Forté
There's no hard and fast rule on Priest insignia. After all, GWs own Ulrik and Njal minis sport Ragnars symbol. It's all personal choice. MalachiOfRuss
The models look great, very clean lines. The only thing I don't like are the eyes on the Scouts - it looks a little too much like they're wearing mascara or eye shadow. Russ Brother 92
very nice pup, welcome to ye fang and as other before me have done already *passes tankard of ale over...* - I would love a close up of the rest of the scouts, one of them (front row right side with long brown hair) looks like he has an ace battle marking (red stripe) down the face so I'd love to see that a bit closer - thanks and good luck. AnvilofFenris
Really nice paint jobs there, I like the eyes on the rune priest. I've also gone for Krom as my Wolf Lord of choice, what are you planning on giving him gear-wise? I went for TDA and twin wolf claws, I see him as liking to get up close and personal! Looking forward to seeing some more I'll most likely use him as a Counts-as Logan. But if I should field him as an ordinary wolf lord I'd probably take the same approach you have :) Now, to document my (SLOW) progress I present to you my Wolf Guard Battle Leader with Saga of the Hunter and +Stalker-Pattern+ combi-melta, who will however usually go to battle as an ordinary combi-melta wielding wolf guard pack leader attatched to my scouts. Wulfebane
Now, to document my (SLOW) progress I present to you my Wolf Guard Battle Leader with Saga of the Hunter and +Stalker-Pattern+ combi-melta, who will however usually go to battle as an ordinary combi-melta wielding wolf guard pack leader attatched to my scouts. IMO I'd at least cut the grass down by half. I'd personally shorten the skinny portion of the barrel slightly as well, but I might be in the minority. Despite that, the conversion is pretty damn awesome. I hadn't considered converting a sniper rifle to give to a scout's WGPL. The head tattoo is sweet as well. I think I'll be stealing this idea... >.> **Edit: To avoid confusion, I'm amending my comment to "the length of the grass is an unnecessary distraction..." Also, if you do trim it, don't do it in a straight cut. Allow for some varied lengths to give it a more natural feel. I'd probably take some of the (considerably shorter) pieces that get trimmed off and glue them around the current grass at random to help dispurse the lamp post shape the grass has at the bottom. PupLord
First of all thanks for all the comments! I am still torn about the long grass. While I agree that it does look slightly long, I really wanted to insinuate that he is stalking his prey in an overgrown alien undergrowth - hence the length. Again I agree that the grass could be improved by cutting it shorter, but would that "take away" from the story I was trying to tell? I honestly don't know... I actually considered removing the entire grass thing and replacing it with a tuft (the same kind the other scouts have). Advice? @Wulfebane: The barrel of the Bolter doesn't look that long on the model in reality. Thi bit used is actually the barrell of a sniper scouts weapon so it fits with the rest of the sniper guys when I finally get them built (later rather than sooner...) And yes, the shoulder pad markings are indeed from the FW Transfer Sheet. Where is the WGBL's sexy head from?? Is that a GS job?? The eyes on the GH are a little 'buggy' for my tastes, but then again I can't paint this good (yet)!! The head is actually the ordinary bald mohawk head from the Fantasy Chaos Marauder Horsemen kit. The only "conversions" I made was to add a blob of GS under the head to "create a neck" and I used a hair dryer to heat the braid enough to make it fit with the power armor collar. The beard is just painted using glazes. And no, I am not very good with eyes but by painting enough of them I am hoping to improve  Again, thank you all for your comments - keep them coming! -Pup Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/250418-krom-dragongazes-great-company-update-26oct2014/#findComment-3089628 Share on other sites
PupLord
Hi all! After thinking about it I decided to cut down a little over half of the "weeds" on the sniper Wolf Guard and I agree, it does look better. Thanks for the input it is well appreciated! Now some updates: 1) Magnetized Land Speeder that has all possible options included. I am actually not that happy with the painting, but the model itself is great. I love Land Speeders (yes, even for the current edition ;) ) http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j224/schwartzland/Space%20Wolves/LandSpeeder1.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j224/schwartzland/Space%20Wolves/LandSpeeder3.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j224/schwartzland/Space%20Wolves/LandSpeederTyphoon2.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j224/schwartzland/Space%20Wolves/LandSpeederTyphoon1.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j224/schwartzland/Space%20Wolves/LandSpeederTornado1.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j224/schwartzland/Space%20Wolves/LandSpeederParts.jpg 2) And secondly my first Grey Hunter Pack with a Wolf Standard and Meltagun (and a dedicated Rhino): http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j224/schwartzland/Space%20Wolves/GHSquad2.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j224/schwartzland/Space%20Wolves/GHSquad4.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j224/schwartzland/Space%20Wolves/GHSquad5.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j224/schwartzland/Space%20Wolves/GH1.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j224/schwartzland/Space%20Wolves/GHSquadRhino3.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j224/schwartzland/Space%20Wolves/GHSquadRhino1.jpg So that is the progress so far... Only six more Grey Hunters to paint and I have a legal, painted but not a very good 500 pts. list for learning all the great new things they call 6th edition - I can hardly wait to get playing!
