Brothers (and sisters) of the Fang!

Long time no paint. :)

After the summer's end travelling and being buried with work I have finally had the chance to continue painting Krom's merry fellows.

I have now completed a (not very good) Combat Patrol Type of a list worth 500 points. For me that is actually an achievement. :D

My list as it stands is:

- Rune Priest Ulfrik Stormcrow

- 5xWolfScouts, 1xHBolter, 1xSniper Rifle

- 5xGrey Hunters, standard, melta, Razorback

- 6xGrey Hunters, standard, plasma, PF

- Land Speeder, MM

I've played two games with it. I lost both but had tremendous fun losing! After that I used some half painted guys to bring the list up to 1000 pts for one game which I won by a landslide (probably due to my opponent playing for the first time, using Tau and me remembering a few rules wrong that in fact played to my hands a bit). That game was pretty fun as well, but what I actually learned (in addition to rules of course) is that I need to finish those half painted guys soon in order to start painting list options I would REALLY like to use.

For the 1000pt game I used what I had in my 500pt list and added a unit of Long Fangs, a unit of 5 Grey Hunters, a dreadnought and three wolf guard to attatch to my other units.

Anyway and on to the pictures... First a new shot on my "Hunter Wolf Guard" with the base foliage trimmed down as suggested.

Then my second (the six guys strong) unit of Grey Hunters.

This is great, nice to see an alternative Great Company! I'm looking at doing Harald Deathwolf and you've really inspired me! Now just to find out how to change the shoulder pad on the avatar...

Will you be fielding lots of Wolf Guard to fit the theme?

  • 2 months later...

how do you do your eyes they look really sharp?. loving the sniper guard especially the tatt.

My way to paint eyes is quite simple: After the first wash I paint the entire eye socket black with very thin black. This defines and blacklines the eye socket very well. Then before starting any highlights whatsoever on the face I paint two white dots to the "corners" of the eyes. That leaves the iris in the middle black. Then I paint a tiny white "glare" to the corner of the black iris with very thin white and the smallest brush I have. Hope this helps smile.png

Here are a few PiP pictures of my vow for Winter's Advance '13. First stage of painting is done. Next up is all the detail work (eyes included laugh.png ), next three highlight layers, basing, shoulder pads and a few little tidbits here and there. Fortunately there is still time! Thanks for looking!

And before I forget; I have painted up some Long Fangs with their appropriate transportation as well. However I was so eager to get these guys on the table I omitted the final painting stages from these guys.

That means that as soon as I have one more pack of Grey Hunters, a few TDA's and a Drop Pod painted I'll revisit these guys adding a final highlight layer to all of them and finally painting those Plasma Cannon Coils to how they should look like.

Hjolda!

I'm finally back in the saddle so to speak. I originally decided to take part in the ETL 2 challenge but failed to paint a single miniature during the event due to real life stealing most of my hobby time. Anyway I decided to make amends by pledging some of the ETL 2 minis to the third Winter's Advance challenge. Namely a Terminator Rune Priest (Njal counts-as) and a five man Wolf Guard pack.

One down, five to go...

I proudly present Rune Priest Heidur Stormhowl.

I am relatively happy with the conversion and quite pleased with the paint job, but I am not entirely convinced with the head though. I might end up changing it to a bare head with the glowing eyes effect painted on... Suggestions or oppinions on that?

And here's is also a WIP picture of the Wolf Guard pack

'Till next time brothers.

EDIT: I was practicing my photography skills with my favourite mini so far and thought I'd share a couple of improved pictures of the "Hunter" Guard...

Nice work on the RP, really love the leather/knotwork head. Here's a RP that I did with the glowing effect in case your wondering what it might look like

med_gallery_61271_8529_1651351.jpg

Personally I prefer yours, I think i'm really going to have to buy a marauder box set just for the heads.

I know it's an old picture but I love how you blended the red on the banner into the brown of the leather. Definitely going to have to try that on mine.

Nice that you noticed! It is a small detail, but one I was very proud of. If you do try it yourself, here's how I did it: I painted all of the "block colour" parts such as the red on the banner and the brown on the very edge of the banner with two even coats of paint leaving the area between unpainted. Then I added "slow dry" paint retarder on both colours on my pallette and painted thin layers on top of the previous layers respectively. Then I used the wet-blending technique on the still wet paint for the "are between". Then, once dry after about 24 hours,  I glazed the entire thing with a thin red glaze and then again with thinned down Agrax Earthshade wash to add shading. Note that I didn't highlight it at all. I let the glazes (shading) take care of that.

@mactire: Thanks! I am undecided yet however. I thought I might do an OSL effect on the bare head but I don't know... Maybe not, I got too many models to finish first I guess.

Thanks for looking,

-Pup
