Thanks for all the kind words so far! They are well appreciated!

I can't decide if looking at your models painted so perfectly makes me want to give up and never paint because you won, or pain 1,000 more models because it can be done. Either way Bravo.

Second thought: Your models kinda rushing forward stance looks amazing.

Third thought: How did you do your wolf priest helms?

Last thought: The Wolf Priest with the bit of apothecary bits was pretty fantastic. Love it.

My key motto for a very long time has been to try and improve my skills, push a bit further, with every model I paint. So keep at it!

As to the rushing forward stance, I have always preferred the more dynamic poses, a sense of movement if you will, in all models. Sadly, in my oppinion, the current SW line is a little static with regard to poses, so I have tried several tricks to improve on that. One trick I've found useful is twisting and tilting the torso to the side and then matching the facing of the head to that. The amount of rotation on the torso can alter the "illusion of movement" dramatically. Compare, for example, the TDA wolf priest and Krom above. They use the same bits (legs, basic terminator body) but due to the twisting of the torso the WP is just standing there in the wind, calm but vigilant, observing even, while Krom looks like he is rushing forward ready to rip his enemy a new one ;). The illusion of movement in the WP comes from the way his pose is static but his cloak looks to be moving in a strong wind. See what I mean? Another trick is to tilt the entire model forward as is the case with mr Fireheart.

The wolf helms were just cut off of finecast Ulric the Slayer models and "patched up" with a little green stuff.

I third the comments above (seconding was taken by Jochteas).  Truly incredible painting there!  How did you do the axe with the lightning?

Thank you brother for the compliment. To answer your question:

1) Paint the entire axe head with 70/30 ratio of Abaddon Black to Ultramarines Blue

2) Wash the entire axe head with Nuln Oil

3) Wash the axe head "body", parts of the axe closer to the haft, with directional washes (I used two) of blue (Drakenhof Nightshade), pooling the color to the top of the surface.

4) Wash the axe "blades", parts closest to the cutting edges, with opposite directional washes with blue wash like this, but less pronounced.

5) Edge highlight Runefang Steel.

6) Drybrush Ultramarine Blue to the area around the power cable and paint a jagged lightning pattern on the axe with thinned down Ultramarine Blue. My pattern was about detail brush width.

7) Drybrush Ice Blue to the area around the power cable inside the previous area and paint the lightning pattern with the same Ice Blue again painting inside the previous layer but with a thinner line (about fine detail brush width).

8) Drybrush a mix of approx 60/40 of white to Ice Blue inside the previous area. Highlight the corners (angles) with the same mix thinned down to almost glaze consistency.

9) Add more white to the mix and highlight inside the previous highlight concentrating on the corners. Again very thin paint. Almost like a glaze.

(10 Add even more white, if you will, again making the highlight smaller than the previous step.)

11) Glaze the whole blade with a single pass of Guilliman Blue + Lahmian medium (an almost transparent layer).

12) Paint dots of pure white to the corners and the bead at the end of the power cable. Done.

Hope this helps.

Hi PupLord

I know it's been a while since you last posted but I was just wondering if you came up with a Banner for Krom's Great Company, my current project if to model all 12 Lords with their respective Banners/Bannerman.

I already have Logan Grimnar, Harald Deathwolf, Ragnar Blackmane and Egil Ironwolf with their respective great company bannermen thanks to the help from the Space Wolves painting guide and codex.

I have unfortunately run out of references for the banners and have to make up the other 8 so any help I can get would be much appreciated.
