Saga of the White Wyrm

BLACK BLΠFLY

Freya watched as giants clad in suits of plate armor disembarked from the sky ships wearing totems of sacred animals. Their armor shone in vibrant colors of gun metal blue glinting under the bright light cast down in unfurling beams from the underbellies of the massive craft. The mounted guns of the federal city answered back but the savage blasts collided harmlessly against the void shields protecting the sky ships. The armored warriors raced along the open ground jumping through a massive crack splitting the shield wall guarding the dome. Explosions continued to boom rocking the solid ground as missiles poured down from the ships. Freya felt the weight of a heavy hand suddenly gripping her by the shoulder. The muse turned to see one of the giants standing beside her. His head was bare and a long white beard fell from his iron jaw. "Come with me young one." his gruff voice spoke out to her. "You have beckoned back the elder race." He smiled and a pair of long sharp fangs jutted out from his gaping mouth. Freya was scared but followed the giant as he turned heading back towards one of the mighty sky ships. For one so large the huge warrior was nimble and raced upon the ground quickly covering the distance.

A portal opened from the bottom of a close by ship and the giant warrior stepped inside the enclosure beckoning to Freya. She hesitated for a moment then joined him. "My name is Woden." he said as tendrils of energy formed around them and the platform began to lift up towards the bottom of the sky ship. The sound of battle dimmed as she listened to the servos whining from up above them. She then noticed looking at her companion that one of his eyes was covered by a patch. The long silvery fur of a great wolf flowed down from the back of his armor and small twinkling runes hung from his belt. "Each of us have a spirit guide in the shape of a sacred animal that guides us. Mine is the wolf and upon finaliy finding you it was decided you should be lead by the same. I will be your sensei. We will train you in the art of war and enlighten you to the path of mysticism. I found you down there just in time my young friend. You have much to learn. I doubt there are much if any more like your kind here. Welcome onboard."

Woden stepped off of the platform into the ship holding out a hand to help Freya follow him. "I know that my goal is more than a thought. I'll be there when I teach what I've been taught and I've been taught. You should know we've told you before but you didn't hear us then. So I think you still question why. Listen to me carefully this time my child. Fond memories... I never thought it would be like this reminding me just how close I came to missing this opportunity. I know that this is the way for you to go. You'll be there when you know what I know. I've told you before but you didn't hear me and you still question why. Listen again very carefully this time."

"I don't understand." said Freya.

"Of course not." said Woden. "This is not the first time we've met. Our lives are eternal and spill over from one death to another. You are one of us but newly awakened again. We have been fighting the same battles since the very beginning. When we grow tired we are attacked by ideas and things we conquered long ago. You are one of our greatest warriors my child. I will teach all you have forgotten." The giant warrior smiled and Freya felt a gentle warmth stir her inside. "All the answers you have been searching for are right here inside this ship."

Woden lead Freya through the inner confines of the ship. She could hear muffled explosions outside and it sounded like the battle had intensified. Woden stepped quickly as they climbed upwards. She saw many people moving around them but had no time to talk to anyone. Finally they came before a large door of solid wrought adamantium. The armored giant drew a long key from a chain hanging around his neck and inserted it into a keyhole quickly turning it. Freya could hear the tumblers turning one by one as the key twisted about within the keyhole. There was an audible click and then the door sprang open receding into the rear of the large hidden chamber. Dim bluish light spilled out. Freya peered inside and saw a huge wall covered with various assortments of exotic melee weapons. Suits of polished armor shone under the dim light. Woden stepped across the portal then beckoned the young muse to follow him. Freya stepped inside and immediately the door closed again.

"Wipe the tears from your face." said Woden to Freya as he handed her a silk kerchief. "This place is my own personal armory. You are a warrior reborn again. Let me teach you what was forgotten. I have a very important task that only you can fulfill." Again Freya looked at the many weapons fixed to the wall. Her eyes were drawn to a long sword and a short spartha.

A long time passes and the war against the Federation comes to a massive stalemate. The star faring race has vast reserves bringing the bulk of its forces to bare. Both sides are equally matched and neither will surrender nor retreat. Freya has been trained by her personal mentor Woden and grows into a deadly assassin as well as developing the skills of a leader.

"You have done well my child." said Woden looking down upon the Valkyrie. Freya had grown taller and her strength was greatly augmented by the sciences of the star race. "You have fought well never once losing even one battle. Your training is complete. You are ready now to fulfill your intended purpose. Look here within my scrying orb." said the giant. Freya looked down upon the floating crystal globe as it rotated slowly above the table. Etheric mists swirled within the glass dome. The mists then dissipated revealing a group of warriors clad in grey suits of power armor. Powerful runes were deeply etched within the pale armor. Those who bared their heads had long beards and tattoos covering their leathery faces. "They live within a parallel universe, one that in many ways is much like our own. They also follow the sacred wolf just like you and I. They are our distant cousins. You must travel through time and space to bring them here. We can win this war with their aid."

Freya stared intently into the crystal ball drinking in their savage nobility. "You think they will follow me?" she suddenly asked.

"They will indeed. You must reach their into their very hearts. This is your mission and the future of this world rests in your hands now." answered Woden. "Beware though for there is great danger and your task is filled with much peril." The giant cupped his mighty gauntlets around the crystal for a moment then lifted them again. The image of the Space Wolves had been replaced by a single man dressed in black. "Look closely Freya and tell me what you see." The Valkyrie continued to study the image and slowly the solitary figure turned around revealing himself. Freya hissed in spite of herself. The man was the splitting image of the Red Cardinal, Father Brown.

"That is an evil one indeed." said Woden in a heavy tone as he ran his gauntlets over the crystal globe again. The mists within the crystal swirled and glowed for a moment then finally dimmed. "You must take care on your journey. The forces of evil are waiting for any opportunity to strike out at you." The giant paused as the crystal globe descended into the folds of the table and was enveloped. "You have learnt to fight with the long sword and spartha. I have a present for you now." Woden leaned over and placed an iron cask upon the table top. He then inserted a long narrow key into the keyhole and twisted it in place. Freya heard tumblers click as they turned about and the long heavy prongs fastening the metal box sprang open. Within the container rested two dark black shards. "These are ancient weapons collected from a xenos race we warred with long ago. They are very powerful and even the slightest touch upon the bare skin of any enemy will inflict instant death. Untold numbers have died to these weapons of mass destruction and there is no telling how long they existed or who forged them. Legend says they were originally crafted by the Primordial Annihilator at the very beginning of time. Who really knows?" Carefully Woden lifted them by their hilts and stowed them in their iron scabbards. "Use them with great care and only in times of your most direst needs. They can taint those who wield them." The giant warrior then handed them over to the Valkyrie.

Woden lead Freya through the vast confines of the warship. There was complete silence except for the sound of their boot heels clicking upon the metal walkway. Freya concentrated on her mission as they quickly made their way. Her mind raced through the various training she had received. She felt anxious and her breath came short. Try as she might she could not relax. Finally they came to a large open portal which Woden stepped through to the other side and Freya followed in right behind him. The Valyrie saw a large raised deck with several round pads resting on top of it. "This is a teleporter." said the giant. "It will carry you to the other world. Make haste. There is no time to lose. Keep your mind focused on your goal." Woden then suddenly lifted her up and gave Freya a tight hug then he placed her on the deck. "Here is your final gift." he said as four large black wolves entered through the portal. "They will be your personal bodyguard. Use them well." Woden then clapped his gauntlets and the wolves sprang onto the deck beside the Valkyrie. The lighting in the room grew dark and Freya felt her head begin to spin. Her sight misted into large dark spots before her eyes and she felt her heart beating like a drum. There was the sound of an intense boom then she felt herself go numb.
